The red UCA222 is the newer version of the original UCA202 in white. The newer model has some additional software, though is reported to use a much cheaper chip. Some speculate that corners were cut that could affect performance.

EDIT: According to some folks over at audiosciencereview.com [audiosciencereview.com], both versions are using the same cheaper chip for the past few years. A handful of Amazon reviews state the same. Behringer seems to have two identical products. One is labeled the newer version that likely performs worse than the original due to a cheaper chip. Since the original had a good reputation, they kept it around. But they cut costs by swapping out the well regarded original chip with the same cheaper chip used in the new version.

From Amazon's product descriptions, here are the bundled software for both units.

UCA202

Behringer provides a heap of free software available via download, to let you get the most out of your UAC202 right out of the box.

KRISTAL Audio Engine
KRISTAL Audio Engine is a powerful multi-track recorder, audio sequencer and mixer--ideal for anyone getting started with recording, mixing and mastering digital audio.
Audacity
Audacity is an easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems.
energyXT2
This amazing DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, and turn song ideas into stunning CD or web-ready recordings. energyXT2 includes built-in synthesizers, a drum machine, and internal multi-FX processor.

UCA222

Because you'll want to take full advantage of the UCA222's podcasting and recording potential we've included a massive software package including Audacity, Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear. You're ready to go live on your Mac or PC computer right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and over 50 effects plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio from input to output.

When you're ready to take your recording projects to the next level, XT Software's energyXT is just the trick. This amazing DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, turning song ideas into stunning CD or web-ready recordings. energyXT includes its own multi-FX processor, built-in synthesizers and a drum machine, both of which can be accessed directly via an external controller (such as our UMA25S or UMX25) or programmed in step-write mode.

I did a little more digging into the differences between the UCA202 and UCA222. According to some folks over at audiosciencereview.com [audiosciencereview.com], both versions are using the same cheaper chip for the past few years. A handful of Amazon reviews state the same.

I'm no audio gear expert. But all this seems rather shady to me. But for the price, it's not worth grumbling about too much. But it's something to keep in mind when considering buying anything Behringer.

If I got any of that wrong, folks, please clarify.

Thanks, I don't think this is what I'm looking for then. I'm already using amplified speakers with a volume control, but I want to use PC volume control to control their volume. I just want another line-out that's fixed and gets the same output, but not affected by PC volume setting. Seems like that might not be possible.
Maybe try a movable $3 USB sound card dongle for another separate output and (regular analog) in.

Tried that, Windows doesn't support multiple outputs simultaneously unless you do some trick with a Stereo Mix device, but then both outputs follow the system volume control.

Free LinuxMint OS (Mate 64bit) will. And you can do both Win and Lin. So why not?
It's best at least on a separate drive, such as an affordable SSD. If not best on your fastest computer. But you can dual boot if you read free net info on how to work around Windows crap. Microsoft does not play nice. Windows must be installed first and it's best to turn off Windows (in)secure boot; because that is not good security.

There's a million options; but the point is you do not have to choose one or the other. You can do both. Add LinuxMint easily. You make (not just copy) the downloaded LinuxMint file properly onto a USB stick (Included WIn app and others to make it by one click) and boot LinuxMint live to verify it works (or simply try a different one for your hardware that does) and click then install.

Anyway, I use LinuxMint with two sound devices and it works great. Optionally "Jack" for music connections; but that is an option you have to learn. Pulse/Alsa drivers auto handle regular sound combos. Jack does musician sound parts and virtual plugins the way you want them.

And LinuxMint does massively many more computer things, at zero cost to you. Except exploring. NOT crappy "freeware".

The more open individual hardware devices and with open coded firmware the better. Many closed devices have been reverse engineered. If you wind up with a rare part that does not work well then replace it. And but open form now on. Otherwise you bought the problem and they dictate when your are done.

Oh and nothing else gives you free new and dynamically improving stable apps. Just run only stable tiers; which includes any Linuxmint.

Even with LinuxMint or another, with different desktop environments and if many custom installed more apps then keep one STABLE install and go crazy on a separate testing system. This way you will avoid duplicates(faster upgrades), losing custom setup work and stay stable when actually using your computer for many different things. With the latest daily security upgrades to all, automatically. Nothing beats that. Nothing.

Best wishes

This was backordered earlier in the pandemic for months but I finally got one last year. I use to for my dj streaming on Twitch with my
MacBook. Works like a charm, especially for the price. Can't beat it.

Well I bought one only because it looks handy af but not because I have a specific use in mind as of yet. Probably not smart but $10 man

I guess I could use it to add my mixer along with a guest instrument outside of the mixer? My mixer be full of instruments lol

Have UMC-22. This offer me any additional/different capabilities?
Inputs from both this and my UMC-22 into Win10 at the same time?

For anyone interested in using this for recording music, (please correct me if I'm wrong) it does not have a proprietary sample control software like Focusrite's Control Center. You would need to use something like ASIO4ALL which is already finicky to begin with. Additionally, the in/out latency for this can hardly get to usable levels. I suppose it would be fine for recording single tracks at a time, but not for multitrack recording where you would need to monitor existing tracks.
But just to use as a soundcard, especially if you need these specific inputs and outputs (maybe to get a clean PC audio signal to your live sound rig), this is a stellar deal.

on account of behringer cutting corners…

bought a behringer 100$ 12 channel non-USB mixer (1202FX). nothing fancy, actually got it purely for volume control of my studio speakers. would you believe me if i told you that it didnt have a power on/off button? and it was always on, until you physically pulled the power cord out from the wall outlet? i mean, im no snob, i get cheap, but how much money did behringer save by not putting an on/off power switch on that little, 100$ mixer? i have sworn since then that if i must buy behringer, id think twice and for sure check whether it has such frivolities as a power button. i believe this little 25$ turdlet of a soundcard has a power button… lol…

In case someone finds this useful:

For sounds/music from multiple sources to be sent to my speakers at the same time with independent control, I use this USB/(RCA) Audio interface(s) and a mixer.

I have a multi-channel mixer with these inputs:
- 2 channels (stereo) from Windows notebook (via this USB/Audio interface),
- 2 from MacBook (same interface),
- 2 from Xbox,
- 2 from a corner tv (occasional news being routed to main speakers),
- 1 from a microphone (occasional zoom, etc.)

The nature of the mixing console allows individual gains (sound source amplification), EQ, volume control, and also individual control of speakers and headphones. I can listen to 2-channel stereo only, but it is very convenient, especially for 2 notebooks that I use equally often. With these cheap but decent (I have the same Behringer models) interfaces, all I have to do is plug a cable.

I have the UCA202. Using it with a mini amp on my gaming rig to drive speakers I had laying around (JBL Arena B15s+ Polk Audio PSW125).
It does the job. Well enough, I gave away my Logitech Z625 setup.

UCA202 says USB 2.0 while UCA222 says USB 1.1. Is it a typo? A newer rev gets USB 1.1?
