WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Has any one tried refuse the UPS delivery? Will they charge a restock fee, or they will not refund the $25 plan card anyway?

The incidents mentioned above that people receive phones with fake parts are horrible.
There are no fake parts here. It may be aftermarket or 3rd party parts but it is not fake. It is ONLY FAKE if they promise oem parts for the recondition phone and it turns out it wasn't oem parts. They didn't

An oem battery replacement cost $79 at apple store. You really think for $125 you're getting an oem screen and battery?

I don't mind the aftermarket battery because at least the phone will work correctly. But aftermarket screen is not right considering it removes True Tone which is an actual sensor that helps the display look right.

Since the Repairs and Service Expiration Date doesn't match the number of days until Repairs and Service Expires, I plugged the IMEI into Apple's Coverage Checker [apple.com]. That showed me that the number of days is the correct information.

Ok. That's to your standard, and I respect that. To me, this phone worths $0. It's my fault with unrealistic expectation. Now I know. It is just me don't want any non oem parts. I learned my lesson.
Then you might want to look at how the 3rd party iPhone refurb scene works. This is completely no difference. If that's your expectation then I can tell you you have zero choice other than buying refurbs from Apple themselves.

Yes, if TW is upfront and honest about it, I will accept the phone as is. In my case, TW recoded the serial numbers for the parts and misled us to believe it is original. Now Apple caught it and resets everything back. I no longer have true tone, face id, and that annoying battery message shows up all the time even it is a like new phone. I wouldn't tell these fake parts if it wasn't Apple.
Just FYI On models after 11 I think Apple will mark part "fake" even if it's original one but is not serialized to that specific phone. What it means is if you take that part from another brand new iPhone sold by Apple store and install it in the different but same model of the phone it will mark it as "not genuine". Has nothing to do with being genuine or not just Apple being greedy since to properly process such thing you need a special machine to code new parts to that device and only Apple has such machine and not ANY kind of refurbishment company will be allowed to obtain such machine either.
For now it Applies to battery, screen and on 12 and higher few other components have been added to the list (cameras for example).

The True Tone is tied by serial number (although the screen has to have that hardware sensor as well). That's why if new screen is not reprogrammed to same serial it will disable it meaning even if you take real screen from different iPhone and switch to yours it will disable it. FaceID is even worse since it's tied to the board itself and only Apple can reprogram it with special machine that costs over $20K and is only available at some locations.
Basically because of Apple greed even if you take two original iPhones and switch parts between them even one part switch will give Apple excuse to deny ANY warranty or repair since you do that single part switch you would have to open up the device and that alone allows them to claim that your phone has been "modified".
Starting with iPhone XS they keep track of battery serials, higher models added screen, cameras and I think even vibrating sensor has serialized parts recorded. I know that when they fixed even 6S plus few years ago the new serial of the rear camera was shown on the repair receipt so if they want they can keep serial record pretty much of any part and if it doesn't responds to their system during check up flag the whole device as "out of warranty" with "fake" parts. Welcome to new age where company "keeps green" while implementing such tactics so devices can't be fixed unless by them at sometimes ridiculous prices which makes no sense and cheaper to buy new device instead.

Do your Xr screen able to show P3 color? Tap the Display P3 small red box in this page https://webkit.org/blog-files/color-gamut/

Interested to see if their 3rd party panel can show proper color.

Thanks
What does this test mean?

On the second picture (webkit Logo), when I click on the "Display P3" button, the picture changes to what it should be (logo overlaid by red) but the text underneath still reads "currently showing: sRGB". I see the same thing happening on my iphone 12Pro (bought new at ATT). All the other samples work fine (picture and the text underneath changes).

Same issue on my PC as well. Website error?

Click the "Activate" link and it will send you to a page with the IMEI filled in. It's also in the URL at the end.

Exactly. I learned my lesson. First the warranty left on tw phones mean nothing. Apple will void it if they find 3rd party parts. Don't take your tw refurb phones to Apple. 2. Most likely all the battery of tw refurb phones are being replaced and for sure it's not the oem battery which will cost $79-99 each. 3. Your display might be original or replaced. I can't tell the difference, but Apple can and will reset the phone to show messages if they catch it. 4. I will dump these phones to Best Buy or eBay or swappa later. It is just me that will buy guaranteed brand new phone or Apple store refurbs in the future.

Different "activations" - phone vs SIM+phone. The date you are seeing is the date the phone was activated on Apple servers for the purpose of warranty, etc.

I bought a new Tracphone phone in December and just turned it on last week. It got picked up Apple's servers, I updated the software, etc. The IMEI check shows that it was activated on 1-8-22. I don't even have the SIM inserted into it yet. When I do, the SIM gets activated, the phone gets registered with the SIM and my clock with Tracfone begins.

Most of these XRs were purchased in auction from apple, or from one of the 4 big service providers. Battery would have been upgraded for every one of them (they all show 100%), screen and other internals if necessary and sold to folks like us. Our clock with apple began long ago. The clock with TW begins when you activate the SIM.
