Sony for:
- Size
- Darker rooms
- Better sound
- PS5

Samsung for:
- Brighter rooms
- Need for viewing at wide angles
- Better UI
- XboxSX

Both are really good choices and I think it mostly comes down to the location you will put it in. Light in room, how far your seats are from the TV, what angle from the TV, etc.
I'm on the lookout for any deal on the 85".
Can you clarify why one is better for the PS5 and the other better for XboxSX?

agreed. It's like the Plasma camp back in the days.
I've had all the top line Samsungs over the years, I am late adopted though. Ie I bought the last top 1080p from Samsung on massive discount since 4K came out, then I bought q80:90s for house last year, I did just buy that 1299 Costco q60t and honestly, that tv looks and is performing great for the downstairs basement Dayton.

Point is, all Samsung led tv or qled I've seen or owned has made me happy. Beautiful picture and such.

With zero fear of burn in. I havnt ever had a Samsung die though, so I'm a fan bit now. 12 years and counting.

Still smart to buy TV's from Costco if they have what you want, I got 7 years w my q60t due to credit card Costco

I've always tried to be a slickdealer w Samsungs to not pay full price, been very happy with the purchases so far. Oled doesn't do it for me, pay an higher premium and worry about burn in. Lol

Btw burn in does happen still, watched tech videos where they run led lcd qled and oled, and the current oled and showing signs of burn in. Not as bad as old, but in the testing they cycle through stuff and there's a discoloration of a person, they think it's from news reporters cycles. Where a person is giving news.

If only the QN90A is on sale… the QN85A is a significant step down due to different panel tech (IPS vs VA) thus image quality is noticeably different between the two.

Do you eARC your audio by chance? Samsungs don't do DTS or DTS-HDMA via eARC so what format does it convert it to when it goes to your receiver? I'm just assuming you have a receiver and could possibly answer my question.

Also Samsungs dont support Dolby Vision. What format does DV content convert to? HDR or HDR10+?

Thanks. Shooting these questions at you since you seem to have so many Samsungs

I have no clue. I've never had an issue where my tv wouldn't play my files. Lol i even use infuse for my data and videos, but everything I have is apple formatted so I don't even know which format that is. I used to use sound bars, I forget which brand but they use that connection that has the light the red one small skinny cord. Never used hdmi e arc or what not.

Wish I knew those questions, but most the TV's are using wall speakers within their proper rooms.

I have two room mates, I don't wa t them using a sound bar and subwoofer as it would be too loud

Had the 85 inch of this and it broke. First the Wi-Fi went out and then the remote would no longer pair and finally the panel quit working. At first Samsung was going to replace it but then due to lack of stock they chose to refund my purchase price I still have the tv as they haven't picked it up yet. The whole process has been frustrating. I plan on getting a Hisense u7g 75 inch that will be half the cost of the Samsung. It was a nice tv when I first had it but I have seen the Hisense and am pretty impressed since it has both Dolby vision and Dolby atmos. 2 hdmi 2.1 ports. For bang for buck in my opinion for movies and Xbox series s or X it is a better bargain. I have the 55 inch version and it is been an awesome tv so far. By the way I barely had the Samsung 85 3 months b4 I started having problems with it.
Just a heads up, I think the 75" u7g uses an IPS panel instead of the VA

I bought the 85 and it was DOA with a flashing panel. Called service, promised to replace parts but cancelled the day off the appointment because... No parts. Called back was told it would be replaced but no stock. I bought in November and they just picked it up YESTERDAY and I'm waiting for a refund. Customer service is horrible. Different story every person you talk to and hold times are outrageous. I left my phone on speakerphone and listened to hold music for nearly 4 hours while I worked. Used the "save your place in line, we will call you" option and you don't get a call back. I'll go with Vizio from now on.

None of these Samsungs support Dolby vision of that matters to anyone. Also eArc does not support dts nor dts HD
Not Dolby Vision but they do have their own form of it and when put side by side any difference is indistinguishable

It is different but barely noticeable. Although the q85a is a bit brighter imho

You're right. I probably wouldn't notice unless I had DV and HDR side by side.

There's a huge difference between IPS and VA panels for dark room viewing. VA should deliver blacker blacks at the expense of a smaller viewing angle. Opposite for IPS panels.

The question is do you have wider seating area or are you almost directly
