We advertise on craigslist and also now have an email list of repeat customers. We also make signs to post around the neighborhood.
I price around 50% of retail for most items, and will usually only make deals on items when people buy in bulk.
My DH used to hate the stockpile (he still grumbles), but now that he knows the $$ it brings in, he's much better about it.
$500 is an achievable goal... In the end, the money that you get from the sale will do the convincing for you.
Then, you're going to be on the cycle of "stockpile, make $$$ at GS and going back to replenish my stockpile."
