This thread is being created so people -- generally, those people who can't seem to resist talking about off-topic junk in the Target coupon thread -- have a place to talk about shopping at Target and other miscellaneous matters.

All you folks who hang out in the Target coupon thread, start hanging out here instead! When you've got something relevant to post about Target coupons, please post about it in the Target coupon thread! We'd love to hear about it, but NOT about your dog, your cat, your mom, your genital herpes, your... well, you get the idea.

Teri~ yep Ryland is 4. He will be 5 in September but after the public school cutoff date Frown So he wont start Kindergarten until he is almost 6.

plgffl~My Daddy is a slave driver. Teehee He expects the highest standards and nothing less will do. I love him and he is a wonderful Daddy, but he can drive ya nuts nod He lets the oldest boys stay the night, but not Ryland..not until he can "act right". Mad He says he's 56 years old and his nerves just can't take it.
Right now he is also amazed with God. How God made this, why God made that, why did God make bad people...the questions just never stop. You can just look at him and tell him mind is going 1000 miles per minute.

Although this is good at Target...he just chats the cashiers ears off and she is so frazzled, she just scans away. Like tonight he said "Do you know some jellyfish glow? Yep, its called bioluminescence!" I asked where he heard that and he said "Channel 28" LMAO
Ahhh, I gotcha now. Frown

WOW! He is one smart cookie, gosh! He sure does know a lot!

Quote from 4BusyBees :
Here is a link to an old video of Ryland singing a country song he loves. (Alan Jackson~ Country Boy) If you know the words, you can understand him. He can talk so much better now. It takes a second to get to his favorite part.
I think I made my albums private besides this video. Let me know if it isnt private.
He is soooo adorable! I'm confused though, he does not look like he is a big boy. How tall is he? He looks like most of the 5&6 yo's in dd's class at school. Regardless, he is absolutely adorable! (Psst, dd loves that song too, but she changes some of the word's around to say like "country girl", stuff like that). He really does love that song though! So stinkin cute!

It beeped. I couldn't see the screen, so I couldn't tell what happened exactly, but the cashier started looking a the Qs, so I took them back.

Sharon, I cannot tell you what a great friend you have become. hug

We thought the gagging was due to enlarged tonsils so we had them removed in 2007. No change.

I literally want to cry. I'm sorry to be a Debbie Downer but I cringe at the selfishness of sometimes being embarrassed by my child. Not embarrassed OF him, but FOR him, kwim? My Dad treats him so differently than my other kids Frown
Ryland hugs everyone. I mean everyone. Since he's large for his age, people wonder WTH is up with him. To me he is a perfectly normal looking child. You'd have to spend time with him to fully see that he has oddities (thanks for that BBSkye). Ryland is just so special. It's almost like he looks right into your soul.
Everyone at school just loves him to pieces and he NEVER meets a stranger. He walks up, shakes your hand and introduces himself. Then he spells his name, just in case you think he said Ryan.He then proceeds to ask you if you want to hear about planets...then he names them in order and tells you facts about each one. Then he says "Do you like my baby sister? Isnt she just too cute?" He wants to tell everyone he meets his life story.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Thanks everyone hug

I also have friends that save their placenta to plant a tree. Yep, 2 friends in Canada have brought their placentas home to make paintings and then plant "The Tree of Life"
To me that is totally weird, but hey...whatever floats their boats. They are both into attachment parenting and believe CIO (crying it out) is abuse and causes long term emotional issues. To each his own, I guess. They have some great points, but each parent must choose they path they feel most comfortable with.
My son does so many similar things. He's also very tall for his age so people assume he's 10ish and expect MUCH different behavior. I so understand being embarrassed for him, when he has those meltdowns in public I just want the Earth to open up and drop me somewhere else. But it's only the jerk judgmental people that actually say something. I've had a lot of people come up later and say, hey he reminds me of my cousin/neighbor/etc that has autism, so they understand. That helps so much.

A few links I have bookmarked. They don't replace an assessment by a development specialist but can give you a little more insight. Since your son is over age 3 you can have an educational assessment done through the school district BUT that is a companion to a medical evaluation. School districts can not diagnose. Their purpose is to determine if the child meets requirements for accommodations in the classroom or is eligible for special needs preschool programs, for example. We had some issues with our school district, they refuse to accept our son's medical diagnosis (they don't have to, even when they are telling a parent to GET a medical diagnosis Mad ) so any behavior problems he has associated with autism were getting him in trouble. We finally got him moved to a self-contained classroom and things have gotten so much better for him.

I find the placenta thing a little weird but we're an attachment parenting/ cosleeping/child led weaning family. Stick Out Tongue

And Cold about the CIO. I certainly hope that's not true!! I've been thrilled about how BB (we call him baby boy, laugh out loud) has responded, but I'm always afraid someday he'll be sitting on a psychiatrist's couch complaining about something I did to him. . .
Bad news is that he may end up on a couch complaining about something you did to him, but the good news is that it's unlikely that thing will be CIO Tongue One thing I've learned in my few short years as a parent is that there is always something else around the corner that you'll have a chance to feel guilty about laugh out loud

That sounds like a great distraction. Just don't teach him anything about Qs - you don't want him chatting about that Big Grin

I would hazard someone facing extreme PPD might try anything. Especially something that costs nothing, takes the life of no other creature and can be hidden in food.

It's still a little vomit though.
