I'm sure in the coming months there will be 8 packs sold to help folks maximize their private insurance reimbursement. When that happens, expect a price increase of US sold kits to $12 per test which is the max of what most insurance companies will reimburse per kit.
For reference this was only $5 per kit before mid-Jan 2022. Be very skeptical of those who say the $5 per kit cost was due to a negotiation with the Biden administration to cap price at cost.
Here's a fact- while our US rapid tests pricing have more than doubled from $5 to $10 and soon to be $12 each, Europe and Asian countries still continue to pay less than $5 a kit.
For example the Abbott Panbio which is distributed in both Europe and Asia (but not US) costs SGD $4.75/ USD $4 each right now https://www.fairprice.c
Even this Target/ Costco Flowflex is still selling for SGD $4.90/ USD $3.60 each https://www.fairprice.c
The reality is that this is a great time to maximize profits if you are selling anything COVID related in the US market.
Price increase is simple supply and demand. Actually in the US case this is just purely a demand side issue (no issues with supply as there are tons of rapid kits being produced and sold around the world that's why there are no crazy prices in Europe and Asia)

Stop spreading misinformation.
That being said, you do realize most households have or will have a need for far more than 4 tests right?
They're recommending you take two tests 24 hours apart to confirm you're negative. If you are positive, you'll need at least one or two tests to confirm you are no longer positive.
A family of 4 could easily burn through 10+ tests if someone in the house gets covid.
I'm sure in the coming months there will be 8 packs sold.
Not to mention by then all kits sold in the US will increase in price reaching $12 per test which is the max of what most insurance companies will reimburse per kit.
For reference this was only $5 per kit just a few months ago. Be skeptical of those who say the $5 per kit cost was a negotiated price with the Biden administration to cap price at cost.
That's not necessarily true when you look at facts. In other countries like Europe or Singapore, this exact Flowflex kit (which by the way are all mass produced in China) retails for USD $3 each without any government subsidies or agreements.
The reality is that this is a great time to maximize profits as a healthcare company especially in the US market.

Make sure you look at the packaging you get and ensure it's the authorized version (white box like shown on website).
For sick patients we plan to keep in the hospital, we often perform a rapid antigen test and a the standard more accurate 1 day pcr test on the same patient at the same time. This helps us determine what type of isolated room they need when admitted.
Example. I had a double vaccinated 67 year old male with Covid symptoms. X-ray looked like pneumonia of both lungs. Our rapid test returned negative. But since we suspected Covid we still isolated him and his standard Covid test returned positive the next day. He was swabbed same time and same technique.
Again, this test is great but perform serial ones if you can. However, it can get costly especially if you have a family. The government really needs to send these out to everyone monthly for free. If you have symptoms and it shows negative. Definitely quarantine and test again in 1-2 days.
I see it with my own eyes, Omicron is infecting everyone. Vaccinated or not. Yah, majority are likely unvaccinated but it is surprising how many vaccinated patients I am getting. I encourage all to get vaccinated but even more, I encourage everyone to mask up and be safe.

The unvaccinated aren't going to worry about being safe anyways.

I got four test kits on Saturday at a local pharmacy ,and saw that they expire on March 2022. They were manufactured a year ago. Some of the BinaxNOW tests have slightly longer expiration (3 months after date on the box), but after that, all bets are off.
I see these being useful before going to a large gathering, but for my work, I still rely on making appts for weekly PCR tests. Had relatives deal with too many false negatives this past holiday...

If everyone would just stay home when they felt sick like in pre-2020, this wouldn't be an issue.
I wouldn't be surprised if manufacturers see this as another revenue stream for the foreseeable future, tests to see if you have a cold or flu and use covid as the example of sales. If you feel sick, you're sick. You don't need a test to figure that out.
Wash your hands folks.
