I have this TV from the last deal at this price. It's a great tv with 1 exception. It's not very bright. I tried it in our living room which is a little bright during the daytime. The only place to set up the TV was across the room from some windows. That condition made for a terrible experience for daytime TV watching. Unless we used room darkening shades it just wasn't worth it to have OLED. Night time it was great. So we relocated the TV to the basement and it awesome down there. With the lights on it's an average TV in the basement. With the lights off it's amazing. I love everything about this TV except for the brightness.

Seems to me if you do a lot of daytime TV watching OLED might not be worth the extra $$. However, night time movies are awesome.

No signs of burn in whatsoever.

This is a 2020 model. So it's basically 2 years old now. Not bad. I rather have the LG CX if you're talking about older model and those you can also find for $1500 new. My Costco had the display model LG 65C1 for $1300.

To me the best feature is Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) which help with games that struggle maintaining constant frame rate. This could be a game changer (sic) especially with ray tracing taking a toll on games that otherwise run smoothly at 60 fps. However I am on PS and they haven't implemented yet, contrary to Xbox.
Well, VRR will be great on PS5 when it gets an update for it. Currently the VRR update is "forthcoming" on the PS5 as well as all of the Sony OLED TVs. I dont know about the 2019s and 2020 models but the 2021 A8J and A9x models were promissed a VRR update by end of 2021 but it didnt come. ITs rumored its coming when the PS5 gets its VRR update.

Have this TV in a bright room with 3 windows and brightness is not a problem. Does have a problem where the audio will cut out with an external audio system when using native apps which is very annoying…

For those looking for the best quality picture, do yourself a favor and save yourself the mental energy of overthinking it. Based on what others have said here already, it boils down to these factors:

If you're a HARDCORE gamer, meaning you're sensitive to motion while gaming and/or prefer high frame rates, and you spend countless hours gaming with a PC or console, then you'll want to avoid this and spring for an LG C1.

If you're a casual gamer, but you're also sensitive to motion and want to play video games at the highest possible frame rate if possible, and you mostly want to use your set for HDR/SDR content viewing, then steer clear of this one and go for the A80J or the C1. (This was me and why I got the A80J for the best of both worlds, but all told, one cannot go wrong with either or)

If you could not care less about gaming, and you're very particular about a bright TV, or the environment it will be in has direct light or bright ambient lighting that you cannot control, then avoid this TV and OLEDs in general and spring for a high end LED TV (even the low-to-mid range LED TVs are just about as bright as OLEDs).

Each use case varies, but take it from someone who has the highest end (and very bright) Sony 4k LED TV (950g) from three years ago, as well as the LG C7 OLED from five years ago, I always preferred watching on my OLED. I have my new A80J directly across from the window, but there is a patio that covers the area right outside of the window, so there is only ambient lighting and not direct sunlight coming through. I can assure you, the OLED is plenty bright even in this scenario. I don't ever find myself wanting it to be brighter.

Bottom line: If you want the absolute best picture quality and don't mind closing the blinds or curtains in an otherwise bright room, this TV and OLED in general are plenty bright enough. The price for this TV is an absolute steal.

Damn, on the fence with this deal or wait for Super Bowl sale on the newer A80J. Non-gamer here. Anyone know what the lowest the A80J has ever gone?

I would say OLED is fine for daytime viewing but maybe not THIS OLED. I have mine in a room that gets bright sun and don't have an issue (I have an LG C7). But my LG is 200 nits brighter than this Sony. I am surprised the brightness is so much lower.
Even so, 95% of my viewing is with the room darker and I would take this Sony in a heartbeat over the LG.

Hah...we have the exact same TV's (except my 950G is a 950H) but they are the same TV's pretty much. I agree with everything you said. Honestly, who watches TV during the day with all the blinds open anyway ? If I have that situation I am usually multitasking and don't care if the picture quality at that moment is the best.
How does the C7 compare to the A80J ?

I feel the same on the brightness. I have two windows and a door in my room. One window is placed directly across the room from the tv which was my only real reflection issue. I placed a curtain on that one and have no issue there. As long as you aren't getting direct light on the screen you should be fine in my opinion. A full motion wall mount could also help in this regard to adjust the screen at different times of the day. I also think this tv gets plenty bright. I normally have it on 20 brightness while using all pic settings. Including Dolby Bright and Dark. This includes daytime and nighttime. Overall I'm quite happy with this OLED and still think this is a good deal for a 65".

This will sound like a knock on the A80J, but to my surprise, it's not significantly better than the C7, which I think speaks more to the limitations of OLED tech in general. But I can definitely tell it gets brighter than the C7 even though the rtings test measures say otherwise. I think I got lucky and ended up with the evo panel on my 65" A80J.

Edit: I think the brightness I'm noticing may also be due to the increase in size since I'm comparing my 55" C7 to now a 65" A80J from the same viewing distance. Plus, playing video games at 4k/120hz (only have one so far on my ps5) is a whole new experience for me.

Lack of HDMI 2.1 for VRR is definitely a bummer and probably the reason for the fire sale. This is not a next-gen TV. I have an X900H from the same year which has all the HDMI 2.1 features enabled. I'll probably wait for the 2022 models to go on sale next year to finally go OLED 4K. My original 2018 LG OLED is still pulling strong.

The brightness issue seems to bother some while others don't have a problem with it. I have no brightness issue but they do look their best in the dark, then again don't they all. If you don't put it in a sun room to watch daytime TV you should be fine. LEDs are brighter than OLEDs, if you like a bright picture you might want to stick to LED. Go to two or three stores and compare both technologies to get an idea.

I personally would not mount any TV above a fireplace. The extra heat only helps to add to the deterioration of the TV's electronics and shorten its life span.
i dont think most people actually use their fireplaces, ive lived in my house for 7 years and never used mine. my parents never use theirs, none of my friends use their fireplaces lol
