Okay, let me help you. I use it to walk and run, outdoors, with AirPods in. I can talk like anyone else using AirPods. I can listen to podcasts like everyone else with a phone. My phone though is an iPhone 13 max, so it's a pain in the ass to bring jogging.

There, now you know why it's useful.

This was so negative dude. There's always going to be something better, but if AW3 has utility why hate? I have certain affinity towards the device as it helped me navigate through runs all the way to marathons. It was nice going out on days without a cell for the last several years. Liberating even.
Only had to upgrade this month after foolishly leaving on during HVAC work.

Cellular is nice when at the pool or water park. However, it's not a replacement for a phone. Series 4 and newer sound 10x better than previous generations as far as making calls.

Definitely want a 7 as I upgrading from a series 1. Going back in forth on the cellular version. As someone mentioned the ability to go for a walk or run in a store without bringing your phone would be ideal. I assume it uses your cell plan data when not connected to the phone? And I assume you can use all apps you would have on your phone such as Spotify etc..?

I use AT&T and would have to pay a $30 activation fee and then $10/month on top of my normal $75/month for my iPhone.

Does that $10 a month have you using your existing monthly data allotment or do u get additional data with the watch ?

i leave my phone in the gym locker and go swimming / play racquetball and the watch works fine, its still able to receive calls. Note: you have to pay for the e-sim service and ATT charges me $10 a month extra for it

You can get a used titanium or stainless steel series 5 for under 300 and even series 6 is coming down in price. Much better deal than this series 7

I've had a cellular apple watch for a few years now. Can't really tell the difference when away from your phone, it just does what it normally does with texts/notifications/calls.

My roommate has a series 5 and uses it for calls and text through voice all day long. Most of her 'phone' conversations are through the watch; it captures voice surprisingly well, even if holding your arm at your side.

Wind noise can be a problem, but even that is not too bad.

I haven't heard how it sounds next to a roaring skilsaw or anything though.
