Not entirely true. Things like dollar spot and brown patch are not necessarily good. Mushrooms are a positive sign of healthy soil..but other fungus are not

Please elucidate. I love my faerie rings.
Google some pictures of lawn fungus. This is for worst case scenario, not for a healthy lawn.

I use this as a preventative early June if cultural practices cannot be followed due to bad weather patterns like unusually high humidity or if grass cannot dry out when day temperatures get above 85F

Similar to how not all mushrooms are edible and can be poisonous to animals and humans. There are plenty of diseases/fungus that are harmful to lawns. Likewise, what's the point of having a lawn if you don't use preventative measures to keep it healthy?

Is this good to use as a preventative against bad fungi, or is this something you should only use if you have an active problem?

Yup.. Rub the granules every day and repeat the treatment every week and 4 weeks later, you will see the result. laugh out loud

It's good for both. If you have bigger lawn and active issue, I suggest using alternative fungicide, so that fungus doesn't develop resistance to any certain chemicals.

That liquid one is good as well. I rotate Azoxystrobin and Propiconazole at a preventive rate when humidity is high and never water late evening.

It's amazing that stores do these heavy clearances in January. Only to stock the same things again in late February

Actually it isn't and, in fact, is emblematic of something wrong with your lawn (overwatering for one) lol

I tried the one from Scott posted by Op last year. Didn't work. So I got this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001H1LNZM) for ~$16 or so which completely removed the brown spots in a few weeks after applying 2 or 3 times.

I have large ones that form in my lawn from where a tree used to be. They are like up to 6" in diameter. They don't look nice and are killing my lawn. I've tried this to no avail but will try again.

Fungi are an integral part of the ecosystem. Your grass and trees and bushes need them to transport and breakdown nutrients closer to them. If you're buying this, you have a different problem that you should be solving instead.
Sure if you want to mow once a month just to keep the HOA away and your lawn is 30% clover.

Or you can load up on fertilizer, pesticides, fungicides, and mow every 5 days!

A "perfect" lawn is not a balanced eco system it's a homogeneous area that is at odds with the environment. No football field or golf course just happens, lots of time and effort fighting the environment.

I have Bermuda in my zoysia does anybody but me know? Nope! But darn it I bought some Fusilade and it's going down!

I'll be darned if I get dollar spot this year. I used The Clemson extension site to make a plan and test my soil.

PS there are 11 billion acres of crop land, my 1/2 acre lawn makes no difference to the world but the world of difference to my 3 kids! (Just not for 24 hours after treatments)
