i'm 4 months in, coming from the 3a to 5a, and hate this thing. I swear the 2 year old 3a performed daily tasks more reliably.
The camera and battery are better, but overall it's not much of an upgrade. I never thought I'd consider moving to an iphone, but this thing has me cursing android.
Strange. I went from the 3 to the 5a and think it's a significant upgrade (except for lack of wireless charging). I'm really enjoying the 5a.
Waiting for $299 without Fi, just plain unlocked.

Switched to 5a from my old one plus phone a while ago when they have the $50 discount. Couldn't be happier with this phone in this price range.

I'm still rocking my 3XL and am honestly kind of disappointed the party is over (no more security updates for any Pixel 3 devices). I understand Google would like some more of my money but...
the Pixel 3 still runs very fast, and it's a shame that the drive for upgrade has nothing to do with hardware capability.

I'm in the same boat with two Pixel 3a's (wife and myself).
Purchased about 2 years ago through Google store. Google has kept me current / updates, running Android 12... my last monthly security update will be May. Both phones run great, from a hardware and user value they do the job.
I could easily live without Android version upgrades, but monthly security
updates has me concerned. Is there any alternative one can use to keep
phones secure?

I bought this phone from the Google store and I have to say its a great phone! Battery is awesome, camera is pretty good, and multi carrier support seals the deal!

The biggest downside to this phone though is Android 12. I feel like Google stepped backwards and made things more complicated than 11. To enable cellular it like 2-3 menus to go through and just to get any settings changed it sucks.

I have also found issues with eSim as some eSim's are not activating properly or at all on 12, I have since reported the issue to Google so they hopefully fix it.

There ARE actually. If you're not squeamish about changing the bootloader and using community roms. (Lineage OS or AOSP) you can get future security updates, you just have to manage it yourself. Daddy google won't auto-push them to your phone though, you'll need to pay attention and update it yourself.

This sort of witchcraft kept my S3 and Nook 10 HD viable for waaaay longer than official support did.

Thank you for the tip.
It does provide an option.
Unfortunately, no experience in this area.

Hoping to upgrade to a Pixel 5a for a reasonable price sometime this year.
Google Fi / T-Mobile towers not a reliable data provider if not in larger metro area...
so the deal in this post although a good price (5a),T-Mobile local tower presence is sparse.

Ironically that his exactly how I got onto Google Fi. No single provider in my area had towers everywhere I needed there to be towers.

Oh, and don't be afraid to run custom roms, they aren't as sketchy as all that.

I love my Pixel 3 as well. The last update I got in my update eligibility window was Android 12 and it broke stuff including AVRCP, the feature that allows Bluetooth devices to control reverse/pause/skip forward of media. Great parting gift, Google. I think they owe us Pixel 3 owners the corrective patches that squash major bugs like this no matter how long it takes.

Given this I'm not too excited about going to a newer Pixel unless Google steps up with fixes.

Google Fi sucks. You are paying premium price for Mint service.

I'm confused. How is this better than the google pixel subscription for $15/month which comes with full insurance? 15×24 = 360. If you don't care for insurance, the price is $9 per month, which brings the total to 9x24=$216 for pixel 5a. Am I missing something here?

With the subscription service, you are locked into a 2 year term service or pay full full price for the phone. If you ever cancel under the 2 years, you will pay the full retail price ($449) for the phone. You need to consider the google fi monthly payment which is about $25 per month after taxes and fees with no to little data use and decide if it is worth it for you. The monthly plan is more than I am willing to spend. I was a fan of the Pixel 3a so I would consider getting a Pixel in the future.

My 4a performs better than my girlfriends 3. Not sure how the 3a performs, but anything is an upgrade from the 3.
