i'm 4 months in, coming from the 3a to 5a, and hate this thing. I swear the 2 year old 3a performed daily tasks more reliably.
The camera and battery are better, but overall it's not much of an upgrade. I never thought I'd consider moving to an iphone, but this thing has me cursing android.
Strange. I went from the 3 to the 5a and think it's a significant upgrade (except for lack of wireless charging). I'm really enjoying the 5a.
Waiting for $299 without Fi, just plain unlocked.

Switched from the 3A to 5A and it has been night and day, battery life is the best I have ever had in a phone. Camera is great. All Google Fi promotions worked easily and their chat agents are always there and help if you need them.
I'm still rocking my 3XL and am honestly kind of disappointed the party is over (no more security updates for any Pixel 3 devices). I understand Google would like some more of my money but...

I originally wanted the 6 but I hate the in-screen fingerprint reader on my Samsung and the 6 Pro also has a curved screen which I don't like either so I just got the 5a and I'm glad I did. Hopefully Google fixes these issues in the future... but the 5a should easily last me 2 or 3 years if I don't destroy it somehow.
the main difference is in the camera system of the 6pro u can such amazing zoomed in shots.
and i always want the best camera in the planet so i can get the bragging rights to the best pics i take every single day which is unbeatable.
less powerful cpu doesnt make any difference i still use pixel2 for VR and it still works fast.

also voice typin on 6 is so amazing

p5a cam is also very nice but they should have the tele lens ultra wide is a waste thats why i wont recommend the non-pro 6 no zoom is a waste.
on 6pro the zoom is 4x but with the AI i can get like 9x optical

Any opinions on this versus the Samsung S21 that's also on sale for $299? Coming from a Pixel 3.

Why so you think? I think apart from Chipset does the s21 really kills the 5a? The battery is a stellar in 5a
Quote from kyden99 :
120hz screen, wireless charging, 8gb ram vs 6gb, telephoto lens. The extra ram and faster chipset theoretically makes it a little more future proof, but who knows how long samsung will keep updating.
Been debating between the two this week.
Had a Pixel 4a 5G, and it had been one of my favorite phones.
I love the clean android, long lasting battery and great Pixel camera. 5a would be everything I like plus add some water protection.
But the S21 is just so much more phone in everything else- Processors, screen, memory, etc.
Finally decided to go S21.

Yeah I know, but I am not a power user, so should last me the day, just not two like the Pixel 4a 5G did. Not thrilled about the bloatware either.
It mainly came down to the screen, not just the being a AMOLED with 120z variable refresh, but also being Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, vs just Gorilla 3 on the 5a. I hate and don't use screen protectors, and while I never saw them while the phone was on, my Pixel 4a 5G did develop very fine micro scratches, where previous higher end Gorilla Glass phones I had never did.

Samsungs suffer from Samsung crapware and bloatware and aren't nearly as good at getting updates as Google. Google also has call screening (does the Samsung)? I'd take the 5a and years of guaranteed updates over the Samsung with the crapware.

Have you ever dealt with Google support? Dealing with a repair order and it's insanely frustrating.

You're not kidding. Had to send my 4a 5G for warranty replacement- 2 months to the day, and 18 generic "the team is working on your case" email responses, before I finally got confirmation that they are going to send out a replacement- but I am still not holding my breath until I have it in hand- another reason I went S21- whole ordeal left me soured.

I have a brand new p6 sitting in my drawer and I'm too frustrated to deal with Google support again. The Reddit Googlepixel is full of p6 bug reports and I can't imagine RMAing p6 and getting anything in working order. I'm leaning to Samsung s21+ for not having to deal with pixel hardware

You have those bugs on your P6? I think I got lucky, both of mine are fine.

Hard to say due to your preference. But I'm always a Pixel guy, I don't do much on my phones except the usual call text surf the web and stream music. I like my P6, camera is awesome. I have an S21 and an S21 Ultra but I prefer my P6. Love the Sorta Seafoam color on a clear case. Have never used a screen protector. I only use the Sammies for their ultra wide angle camera when I shoot landscape photos. Do you enable developer options and disable animation scaling etc on your androids?

I think the Blade X 5g is the same phone from inside and much cheaper and the trade off is less system update than Pixels.
