My colleague has the Surface Laptop with the AMD Microsoft Edition processor. It's pretty awesome. I wonder why Microsoft isn't putting the AMD Microsoft Edition processor in the Surface Pro.

Also, be advised that you cannot turn off the power-saving backlight dimming in battery mode. This is the kind of thing that Intel mobile graphics does depending on screen contrast, not ambient light. Nobody has found a *working* way to turn this "feature" off yet.

FINALLY! Thunderbolt 4 😎. Time for some eGPU gaming. Well, maybe not with the i5. I imagine the new surface 8 also thermal throttles pretty bad under a load. The i7 with a fan could work. It would be nice to have a portable device for class, then have a little fun at home
There are a couple youtube videos of people running eGPUs with the i5/i7. i7 does seem to do better in games.

Had the first gen surface and loved it despite lots of flaws. Definitely excited for a Surface with Thunderbolt 4 to have a machine that can do gaming and photo touch up with a pen, but probably going to wait for an Alder Lake version.

I'm in the market for one of these windows tablets, everyone I know who owns one speaks very highly of them. I'm getting tired of the limitations and bugs when using my ipad pro.

I'm cross shopping a windows surface device against the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable. For $1091 you can get a 12.3' 1920x1280 ips 400 nit touch screen, i5-1130G7, 16 GB, 512 GB SSD, and it comes with the keyboard and pen. $1179 for a i7-1160G7. The thinkpad seems more durable. (probably less with perkspot discounts)

Does anyone have any thoughts comparing these two devices?
I am also wondering between these two. Any experience from any one to share?

Why is this weak trash on front page? 8gb and 128gb storage for $900?
And they REMOVED the micro-sd card slot. What a f*** joke. We are going backwards with consumer electronics.

I've used for a month, totally in love with it for web surfing as well as web development. It's smooth and quiet. The only gripe is after adding the protective bump and the keyboard, it's not that much lighter than a 14" laptop.

I put a surface go 3 on a dell usb c docking station, two monitors and a keyboard and mouse later and it's a great workstation outside of games. With the keyboard case which isn't unreasonable it's great. Pretty great for a coupon code to get it free when taking a training course.

Plus there's a way to install Linux onto it.

If I didn't have the surface go 3 I'd buy this if there was a way to install Linux onto it.

Sure... it is better but what is PATHETIC is that the surface pro 3 had 8GB of RAM.

Purchased Hp Elitebook 840 G8 [walmart.com] for work and does what I need. Routinely run heavy programs with lots of windows to two monitors and no lag. Quick start up and smooth performance.
Here it is for $700 used - good condition.

BUT unlike yours... which only has 8GB of RAM, this one has 16GB of RAM. So besides being $450 cheaper it is way better. And it has double your hard drive space. Applause

Hard drive I believe is replaceable. Just not the RAM.

I don't use it for software, but should provide competent performance. Depends what are you developing for.

If in need of heavy VMs, possibly you should look to upgrade to 16GB at least, but other than that, is very competent.
