The "R" versions of these TVs can't scale 480p content properly, and it looks blurry.

FYI - for those who missed the h9g deal, it has 20% cash back on amazon prime card, which knocks the price down to 520.

Welp I was gonna use this in my game room with a rasp pi arcade setup I built so this actually matters for me as the default output of retropie is 480p... trying to figure out if I can force the rPi to output a resolution other than 480p so this TV will work for me.
I wouldn't bother paying for something like this for anything 480. Just go to pawn shop

Ya Im not looking for more inquiries on my credit, funny enough, this has the VRR apparently the U6 didn't, and the H9G also doesn't have VRR which apparently is important for gaming?

I'll let the higher level techs chime in.

If anything lower than 4K looks terrible on this TV, then it will be a bad TV for watching cable. Is the your U8G better than the U6GR at upscaling content?
The U8G is much better than this tv at upscaling. However, from what I've researched Sony is significantly better for upscaling than hisense.

Does anyone have an issue with this TV when it dims and you need to restart it to get normal brightness? I can't figure out which setting causes it to do this. I have power saving settings enabled (save power after 15 min and turn off after 4 hours), but the description says that they only take effect when there is no signal or interaction with the TV. Any ideas?

You can always get a Nvidia Shield or Apple TV for better upscaling. It would still be cheaper than a U8G or Sony. The 120Hz panel would be the bigger draw for any of those

Does it do it when Power Savings is turned off?

For anyone who bought this at Costco before this price, you can do price matching. I just did it today and got back $54.56

I bought this when it was $450. Mine has zero issues with blooming, and I ran all the tests people suggested on the previous thread. It needs a little adjusting out of the box, but the Rting settings work great. Colors are good, and I like the speed of the Roku interface, even though it's a little more plain than Android TV.

The only negative I'd say is that the viewing angles really are pretty narrow, and the colors wash out significantly if you view it from a side angle. I use it as a second TV in my office and the sofa is right in front of it, so it's not a problem. If you put it in a large living room with a lot of furniture spread out around it, it would be.

I don't think there's a better TV of this size for $400, so if this is your price range, buy it. The warranty from Costco is amazing too.

I've been watching/waiting for a good deal on a 55U6G... this is tempting, and I'd probably just throw a Chromecast GTV on it to avoid the Roku UI. Also considering the 55HG1 (2021 model) as it seems to go on sale fairly regularly.

Yes, but it says that it only applies when there is no signal. So once we are watching something, I assume it should not apply, but when it gets into the dimmed mode, there is nothing to take it out other than restart. Maybe a software bug? I dunno.

This is my first Roku usage experience. It was a bit weird initially, but I really like it. Simple enough to use. Lots of built-in free programming. I no longer need to have my Fire TV stick and Chromecast connected, so it simplified the wiring. Is there anything in Chromecast GTV that is missing from Roku?

It's purely personal preference as far as I'm concerned, especially as far as the built-in OS of a smart TV goes. There are some fringe cases where you might be better served by one or the other when integrating an external device with higher-end home theater equipment, but as far as core features and content purely for use with the TV it's built into, they're pretty comparable.

I use AndroidTV / GoogleTV exclusively around the house and already have a Chromecast GTV I could throw on it, so it would mostly be for consistency and UI preference in my case.

See if the CEC settings are doing it on the device using HDMI or the TV. If not, factory reset.

Spend a little more and get the u7g or 78g instead. They have hdmi 2.1 which is future proof plus 120hz native.
