Within the US, TextNow's SIM card -- when used with their Free Nationwide Talk & Text plan -- simply provides limited cellular data to allow TextNow's app to be used (in the US) when you're not within WiFi range.

Even within the US, if you take out TextNow's SIM card and just use WiFi, your current TextNow services would still work as they do today. Your current TextNow also still works if you sign in to the same TextNow account on other compatible devices connected using WiFi or cellular data.

Outside the US, you will need to either use WiFi or provide cellular data, swapping your international SIM card in for TextNow's if your device only has a single SIM card slot, to continue using TextNow as you've had been.

if you are going to use voice/txt over data, then why not Google Voice ?

FYI, you don't need this if you have any phone with data. Just download the app for the same thing.

if that is the case, you probably will have bad experience with this deal too.

because, how in the world can you get into any problems after paying $1 with a burner CC for +500MB.

at one point i had 13 FP sim cards. the only issue that I had was that one of the sims arrived 2-3 weeks late.

i am still using FP with the 1GB/moth @ 25 per year plan (using G-voice). ZERO issues . . .
You are comparing a service that requires a cc (and the hassle of getting a burner cc) vs a service that doesn't require a cc. It's a pretty big difference in many cases.

"and the hassle of getting a burner cc", lol, the hassle is not getting one . . .

Textnow is not different from any other company that can keep charging you regardless of your resistance to it. so the smart thing to do with anything that cost $1 or is a small company is to protect yourself via a gift card or a burner. if that concept is too difficult for you to overcome, you will always be a victim. and arguing about it is moot considering that you have already been informed. Peace

My 3 older Sprint Phones (currently in use with text now) FAIL the device test. They sent me 1 free SIM and I just bought a 2nd. I have an old AT&T locked phone that passes and 2 unlocked Moto TrakFones that pass.
That is because those older phones are not VOLTE compatible.

Price when 1st released was $10. Then it was $5. Most likely, the $0.99 price is temporary. Item being sold is the T-Mobile sim.

$0.99 is the charge for the sim. Once you get the sim, the basic ad-supported unlimited calls and texting is free of monthly fees. No taxes.

Textnow uses VOIP, so I do not believe VOLTE is a strict requirement though you probably need at least a phone that supports LTE.

When they say SIM card, do I get a new phone number associated with TextNow or it uses my GV number (since I have to sign in via that) I would rather have a new number. TIA

You get a VOIP number to use with the app. You also get a fake number associated with your SIM card but since you cannot recieve calls or text using it, it is useless.

I added the following link to the original post that skips the IMEI check.

Are all the SIMs Textnow send out the same? Does it matter if you have iPhone, Samsung, LG, Pixel, etc. Will the SIM work with any of the recent phones (last 3 years) of the aforementioned brands as long as they are unlocked?

Can you use a regular new Tmobile SIM to activate service?

You couldn't pay me to use FreedomPop.
And yes. I am saying that here on slickdeals well knowing the audience. The experience with them was that bad.
To be specific re bad:
I had four phones on Freedompop Free plans for a number of years. I checked when the guy sold them a couple of years ago, they still worked so left them alone.

They got bought. The buyer put these free plans on $4/mo plans, opt out only.

I noticed this a couple months into credit card statements, was out $32. An hour on their service line got me half back.

F that.

Question for all, probably answered here somewhere--I did this Textnow deal on an old Sprint phone a year ago, and it still works. Will I need a new sim?
