Front load washers work much better.
Topload high efficiency don't clean.
Front load washers are a pain in the rear end to clean and maintain. Ive owned one for ten years and I can't wait for that POS to break so I can buy a top load. It's getting to the point where cleaning the buildup inside the detergent tray and front door seal is aggravating.

For heavily soiled/dirty clothes, they need to soak before washing. Not on the presoak setting, use the actual soak setting with hot water if you can. I use cloth diapers for kiddos and I'm getting them clean with this washer with this method.
There seems to be an issue with some washers not filling with water. I don't have that problem. I have to not use any additional rinse cycles to ensure my clothes aren't too wet before drying.
I have no issues with the dryer other than it gets too hot on the eco mode - shrinks clothes so I always use the low heat cycle.

I am still using a Kenmore/Whirlpool from the 90's that works like a champ and never been touched.

nowadays, manufacturers use crappy parts. Making them work properly for a short time, then sell us new ones again

SCAM!
I've cycled between both and yes, I don't overfill the detergent tray and fill it below the normal line. What's horrendous about the front loaders is the moisture that lingers inside the tray and inside the door seal. Leaving the tray and door open after using it still doesn't allow the trapped moisture to evaporate leading to moldy buildup.
I gotta take paper towels and scrub the door seal all the way around, and then use a large pipe cleaner brush to scrub the inside ofnthe detergent tray and let me tell you, the grayish black jelly buildup is enough to make a grown man gag
