Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

Whats the point of prime anymore. Nothing is ever shipped within 2 days. If its something popular and they have in my local warehouse I usually get it in a day or two. But most stuff takes about a week. Thinking about just cancelling.
You're dating yourself. The shipping isn't even top 3. Video, games, music, photo storage, then maybe shipping. It's just as good as Netflix and offers way more for less.

Cannot live without prime. They lock me into their ecosystem real good with cloud photo and video storage etc. but I have to say we probably spent $10k on Amazon every year. Their customer service has always been amazing to us. Got many credits and free stuffs over the year. The no package no label UPS return is also amazing. I tried Walmart+ for a few months but either our local Walmart just sucks or we got bad luck, the experience was negative. For our household amazon and Netflix are really hard to let go.

As a thank you for the record profits the past two years we'd like to raise your annual membership fee.
So confused by comments like these. Invest in the stock. It's up more than 100% since the last time they raised prices. You should be making money on Amazon's success - not losing it. My gains on their stock dwarf the costs of prime and it's not close.

I believe Prime student membership gives you 4 years of reduced price. Did you use it for 4 years before it stopped giving you for Prime student membership price? If not, why did they stop giving you?
yes, 4 years I've been a student longer though. I would change emails but like having the order history in one place.

Finally inflation catches up. I mean Costco and others have been jacking up the membership fees. It was only matter of time. Can't blame Amazon.
Inflation? Amazon, Costco, etc. all recorded increased revenue and increased annual profits in 2021, higher than pre-COVID levels.

It's not like inflation took a big chunk out of their margins and they are raising fees to get back to normal. They are already making more money than ever, and higher fees mean that profit number keeps going up.

I get the following error when trying to checkout

Amazon Prime (One Year Membership) is not available for you to purchase because you are either a Prime member or you are buying Prime with 1-Click ordering. Please delete this item to continue.

Then every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to create posts bitching about Amazon, Bezos and being unable to afford Prime.

One more year and I have a feeling I will be out as other players are getting competitive now too. $139 seems a bit hefty.

So you... or someone is proposing tying up $120 for 'several years' in order to save $20. That doesn't seem to make good sense to me.

Additionally given that prime has moved to 'several days' instead of 2 day shipping I'm starting to fail to see the value. Their video library is second rate at best and I don't use any of the other benefits so it's creeping outside of reasonable for me.

Good point!

Where can I get 17% return on $120 these days?

I'm already paying $130 and change for Prime because for some reason CA charges tax for membership, what a dumb idea. So it will cost me $150 after price increase.
