Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

Just today return an item which was bought as new but delivered open box with missing stuff. This has happened 4th time with me now
Oh boy. This had happened more than 3 times in the last 6 months. Worse, the 'replacement' got here quickly, but I got an email indicating that I needed to return the original item or else... (that I will get charged for it). This happened *every* time - even though I was told to throw away the origin stuff. (All of these were food/snack items).
Yes, they fixed it every time, but the hassle and time wasted 😞
Worse, one of the items: I had to call them twice.
Finally talked to a "team lead".
I know the pandemic has been brutal to the Supply Chain. But the *same* mistake over and over again?
And now, I'm not even sure what I have missed to check/verify.
Venting aside, it is true that Amazon logistics, packing, shipping, and customer service have been declining for the last 2+ years.
Thus, good time to evaluate the Prime cost.
Thanks, OP

Cause Elon was talking sh*t how Jeff is number 2 so he is sticking it to Prime Members to get back to 1.

I'm already paying $130 and change for Prime because for some reason CA charges tax for membership, what a dumb idea. So it will cost me $150 after price increase.
2/3 of states pay tax on Amazon Prime membership so at least you're in good company.

Is it really worth saving $20 by paying years in advance? Time value of money, etc.

I'm out. With how much money Bezos is taking in the price increase has zero justification.
I just saw that Amazon had record profits this past year so why the increase?

Eventually this is gonna be $199.99 per year. lol
The ROI supports an annual fee of about $300/year with shipping savings, etc. So it's still a great deal at $139.

So Amazon still mix their inventory with other items that are same?

If so fakes are still getting mixed like sd cards for example?
Yep, recently bought an all clad fish spatula to replace my old one. Same model and everything but the logo was off centered and way flimsier.

Prime fee going up while Amazon's pricing continues to become less competitive, large numbers of items I've bought from Amazon are out of stock, quality of movies offered on Prime Video continues to decline dramatically and customer service is increasingly handled by offshore workers with substandard English skills. Also, Warehouse Deals have become pretty weak in general (with some categories, like Groceries becoming almost laughable). And the No Rush Credit has virtually disappeared except during Prime Day and Black Friday week. My account renews on March 19, apparently before the increase, and I'll likely renew but that's still an open question.

Hmmm anyone notice the fine print?

"The gift membership does not automatically renew and is not eligible for promotional offers."

Key being promotional offers. Are they saying the year of prime from the gift will not have any promotions at all? That can be a serious deal breaker if that's what they are meaning.

Could also mean you can't get a discount on the $120 gift membership with any promotional offers. A bit more clarification should have been done in that wording.

The site doesn't quite have clear instructions, I selected "end membership" so it gives me 3 options, I then selected remind me just in case. I'll set a calendar reminder too but I bought it and selected to send to the "recipient" next year since mine just renewed. It's set to send the day before renewal.

That comes out to 11%, as inflation compounds each year
