Why buy an EX5? Its cheaper than EX5s with a built in tablet.
I was able to add my own tablet which connects to a usb plug port on the bike.
I wanted to buy this bike to join the Peloton membership. FYI, Peloton membership is $40 a month for all access with their bikes. You have the option to just join Peloton digital membership which is their app only for $13 a month. Since I'm prior service (Military) its only $10 a month.
If you buy the EX5s you are stuck with their app and you have no choice but to get on the echelon membership if you want to join classes. Mind you, you can still use this bike without membership and it must be plugged in.
I connected my own tablet and installed a 3rd party app called qdomyos-zswift. It's a custom app for Android and Iphone to convert your echelon stats to peloton and the best thing about it is it will sync (auto resistance) the echelon bike to the peloton classes.
So i run my zswift on my tablet and run peloton app on my smart tv and the peloton app will sync to the zswift app once you login with your peloton membership.
I hope that helps anyone wanting to get on Peloton using an ex5.
Again, just trying to clarify that the bikes with or without integrated tablet can be used exactly the same with 3rd party apps and devices. HTH.
Oh and the EX-4S+ for $800 from Costco is a great deal as well although it comes with a tablet. The Ex-4S+ also comes with a full 1 year membership as well so, you can at least tryout the Echelon app to see if you like it.

I now have been riding the IC4 for about 5 weeks and just assembled an EX3 last night. I also pulled the trigger on the EX5 with a delivery date in 2 weeks to secure the price and give me a moment to compare them. I like the IC4 a lot but am curious about the auto resistance.
Essentially, my assessment for the IC4 is largely what I predicted. It's a great bike. I think in that price range it's either the EX5 or the IC4. The IC4 at $599 was an amazing deal. Based on assembling the EX3 yesterday, the IC4 seems a tad sturdier, The EX3 can raise the handle bar 1 inch higher on max setting, but cannot move them forward or backward. I am keen on testing the auto-resistance, and then it will be either IC4 or EX5. The IC4 appears tad more compact, but the bottle holders are in my way when I get out of the saddle. The IC4 only has manual resistance, but it is 4 short turns to go from 0-100. The seat on the EX3 seems much inferior to the IC4.
The EX5 compared to the EX3 seems to have a munch better handlebar, that can also be moved forward and backward, and the screen holder is nicer and sturdier. The water bottle holders are also better. Not sure anything else is different but at $700 on sale right now the EX5 seems worth it.
Both can be used with the peloton $13 app and you can put the QZ - qdomyos-zwift app (same FB group) in between. You don't need that though for the IC4, but you would need it for the auto-resistance on the Echelon. I have been riding the IC4 just with the Peloton app and Wahoo HR strap and have the cadence from the bile and the HR from the strap in the Peloton display on the app.

I think the IC4 may be a tad better in many other categories than the EX3/EX5 but the auto resistance may be the killer feature that makes me swap them in favor of the Echelon. We'll see in 7-10 days after a few rides on the EX3.

The only appeal to the built in tablet, IMO, is the size. The 20 inch screens are super immersive and I'm worried I won't be able to get the same experience with my iPad.
This deal looks like it's the cheapest it's ever been on Amazon.

I started a year ago on the Connect Sport and it's a great bike at a great price but quickly upgraded. The higher level models were worth it to ME simply because I use it a ton and am a bigger, stronger individual. Whether the price is worth it to others is totally subjective as the overall experience is similar. HTH
