At least this comes with an actual sandbox. The previous iteration just used the box it comes in, which didn't last. Storage for this looks like it would still be a pain with no lid, so expect to provide your own Ziplock bag or other container.

Fun stuff to play with, though, and the brand is good. Great for older kids who like to play with Play-Doh and similar manual manipulation toys, fidget toys, etc.

Bonus parenting tip: plasticine/plastilina is better than Play-Doh and won't dry out, and works with most of the same shapers/toys (extruders are iffy). It can be a little hard to work with at first, but softens up.

Is this a huge mess ready to happen? I have a 7 yr old and carpets in the bedrooms.

It gets everywhere. I would not recommend playing this inside with carpets...unless your kid likes to play nice and neat

We use this at our dining room table over wood-ish floors. Easy enough to sweep up, doesn't stick too bad. Would not use over carpet.

Of course it is. My wife just bought a sensory bin with sand and water beads. Not sure that was such a good idea.

I got something similar years ago from sharper image. I recently rediscover it after 5 years in storage. It was in a cool place in its container, but it was very stiff, like something dried. Is the there a way to moist it back? Water doesn't work. Will this kinetic sand dry up too in a few years?

Good thing about this is that it does not get messy like sand. The sand likes to clump together and is easy to clean up. It's not sticky and easy to clean with a vacuum.

Agree with other replies, it's the kind of thing we keep at the table. I apply the same rule to modeling clay, crayons, and markers, though. Definitely not as bad as regular sand or the infamous glitter. Though it would probably vacuum out of carpet, I'm not testing that with brightly colored sand.

My bigger concern is that it's put away after use so a cat doesn't decide to see if it tastes good. Probably harmless, but I don't need bright purple, lumpy cat vomit to clean up.
