I will preclude this statement with I went full on obsessive when researching this set and golf clubs in general.... I can post more info if anyone wishes

These are actually Callaway X2 Hot clubs that were originally released in 2014. Callaway re-released them with a new name and color scheme for exclusive sale at Costco. These clubs were initially released at Costco several years ago as "X2 Hot+" then 1-2yrs later as "Edge" with a green color scheme and since last year "edge" with a gold color scheme. You can find the matching X2 Hot 3/4/5/AW/LW irons online. This information has been confirmed directly from Callaway by several online sources plus I called Callaway myself when I was extensively researching these last year.

A few notes on this set:
- Its rare to find these in store and regular flex steel is the only option
- These sell out quickly online (re-sellers buy out the stock to flip them for insane prices)
- Last year costco was offering to select accounts $50 off $500 online purchase, usually if you chatted with customer support they would give you the coupon as well.
- Graphite is the same as regular flex except one is steel and the other is graphite shafts (my brother owns the steel and I own the graphite... we've done comparisons)
- this set DOES NOT come in senior flex or left handed options for graphite
- If for some reason you don't like any part of this set it is very easy to sell off the items you don't want
- The putter alone is worth $100+ brand new; it is an Odyssey White Hot Pro 2 in silver vs black (which was retail color)
- The driver/3 wood/hybrid are basic but are nice
- The irons and putter are great

EDIT: for the persons asking about extending shaft lengths... you can add on shaft extenders (options for both steel and graphite) and extend the shaft up to 2" maximum (not recommended to go beyond that). Look up some videos about "regripping golf clubs" and you would need some sandpaper, golf shaft epoxy, and basic skills to extend these yourself (look up some YouTube videos from the mobileclubmaker on building clubs to get an idea how to use epoxy).... for reference in 1yr I went from never playing golf to playing multiple times a week and building golf clubs from scratch for fun as well. I do have a higher level of mechanical ability (rebuild cars for fun) but honestly, it isn't hard. Its a fun hobby to get into

EDIT 2: LOFTS
Driver: 10.5°
3 Wood: 15°
5 Hybrid: 25°
6: 26°
7: 30°
8: 34.5°
9: 39°
PW: 44°
SW: 54°

EDIT 2.5: link to callaway x2 hot iron specs mens & womens (loft/length/lie/etc)…. Heads Identical to this set (different shaft specs)

As someone who has played thousands of rounds of golf, played in state and national tournaments in college, I have used these clubs and can say they're perfectly fine for any beginner, amateur, or value golfer who doesn't need to brag about getting ripped of in a pro shop.

These clubs vs a 3000 set won't make a measurable difference in the hands of 99% of golfers.

Get these, a fancy bag, a 52 wedge, and maybe change the grips, and you'll be fine for years to come.

Generally, between regular (steel) and stiff (steel), if you swing it faster than what may be considered an average male (In other words you're athletic and a quick swing), then go stiff.

Between graphite and steel, steel is generally heavier, provides more 'feel' when hitting the ball and more commonly used, graphite is lighter and absorbs more of the impact so it's preferred by older players.

I'm 35 and in decent shape, but my personal preference is graphite since I have bad wrists.

Hi. I am trying to buy the right set for my daughter. She plays on her high school team. She is about 5'5 to 5'6 tall and about 125 lbs. Right handed average swing speed for that age. Which shaft do u recommend for her. Or is this a good set for her or do u recommend something else. So far she has only played with used cheap sets.

I would say women's flex version in graphite.

IMO This is a great set for her and as she progresses she can swap out pieces as needed.

Putter length is definitely a personal preference thing. I would recommend cutting the grip off of the putter and cutting 1-2" off (pipe cutter, hacksaw) to a length she is comfortable with (I personally prefer a shorter putter and so does my lady playing partner) and installing a grip that has the ability to add weights into the grip end (ex. Super Stroke Counter Core series of grips)

Which one is best for a novice?
40 and over - go with graphite
under 40 - go with steel

Steel has more feel and control, but it is heavy to swing (less accurate, if you cannot handle) and more impact to your wrist, elbow and shoulder.

How does this compare to strata 16 piece set from dicks sporting?

https://www.dickssportinggoods.co...ens%202019
This is way better than Strata. Cannot compare. (Strata should be compared to Wilson Profile SGI, both affordable beginner's club. Lowest tier.)
Strata even includes a bag and is cheaper than Edge and both are from same company. This only means that Edge uses better components. Reviewers above wrote good opinions.
These are hard to find because the quality is good compared to its price, you won't find any other competition for 500-550. It is normally sold on Ebay for over 700.

Anything slightly better than this set, you would need to go around 1000. But will it really make a difference for an extra 500?

Good review below.

Rec on a complimentary 52 wedge? Also - what's wrong with the factory grips?

Appreciate your insight!

When you get close to the green a wedge with a lower bounce (thinner profile) will allow for a wide range of approach shots. The grips are fine on these, however, the best upgrade for any golfer is the correct thickness grip. I have larger hands and use oversized grips that add control and comfort over just rubber grips. Not a need, but definitely a nice upgrade after a bit of use.

A 50 and 56 degree wedge would compliment this set nicely leaving a 6 Degree gap between PW (44 deg) and GW (50deg) and SW (56 deg).

There are plenty of cheap wedges out there. Technology is about the same for most of the cheaper ones as they are the old school blade style (some come with extra mill work). You can get a set of 3 lazrus wedges 52/56/60 "scratch and dent" direct from their site for about $70 shipped. The Costco Kirkland wedges are also really nice at $170 for a set of 3 52/56/60. But if you are looking to match the cavity back style of these irons the Cleveland CBX2 wedges are on clearance everywhere $110 steel/$119 graphite each. Pricey, but I They are an amazing cavity back wedge and come in 46/48/50/52/54/56/58/60.

Grips are a comfort thing... as for size your finger tips should not be digging into the meat of your palm, they should just barely be touching. When it comes to style that is purely personal preference.. do you want soft? tacky? firm? alignment aids? etc

For my Driver/wood/hybrids/irons I am using Winn Dri-Tac Wrap in Midsize
For my Putter I am using SuperStroke CounterCore Pistol GT1.0 with a 50g weight

I think the Pw loft is around 41 on this set
I think you might be thinking of the "Rogue X" irons which are very strongly lofted. The rogue X PW is 41 deg. The Edge/X2 Hot PW is 44 deg.

Do you recommend an easy go-to grip replacement?

I use Winn Dri-tac or Golf Pride grips. Usually get them for around 7 a piece. My proshop grips my clubs for 2 dollars each or they give me the tape and glue to do it myself. It's around 100 bucks and last 2/3 years depending on use and storage. If you store them in your house, they last a long time, I store mime in the garage and the temp wears on them.

so the right handed stiff can be customized? i'm 6' and think I could use clubs that are a tad longer - what would that type of modification run for a set like this?
Most people within the range of "normal" height don't require customization. You are taller than average but your arms are likely longer than average. Since you are bent over in a golf posture golf clubs don't need to be "proportional" to your height.

Does anyone happen to know how frequent this deal pops up at Costco? Is it once every winter?

Every late winter / early spring... online usually sells out very quickly. I'm surprised they have lasted this long.

Are there additional clubs I need to complete this set and what's a good bag to put these in? I want to make sure they fit well and look good.

Thanks

Damn. I bought the original X2 Hots from Costco and my set didn't come with an Odessey putter with a Suregrip.
Might be worth buying the set just for the putter and flipping the rest.

I posted a reply a few posts back in reference to wedges.... I would complete the set with a 50 deg and a 56 deg wedge (sell off the SW that comes with the set/keep it for later on) OR just obtain a used X2 Hot "A" wedge aka attack wedge aka gap wedge. The X2 Hot A wedge is 49 degrees.

As far as bags go that is a personal taste item but if you don't mind the Pebble Beach logo the 14-way stand and 14-way cart bags on the Costco site are very good and light weight. They are actually Sun Mountain bags and ship directly from the sun mountain factory. I've used that bag for quite a while. My other bag is a Sun Mountain Maverick cart bag.
