This definitely seems like a worse deal than the 80K mile offers (or maybe it was even higher?). It says you get the pass after spending 5K in 3 months which is relatively heavy spending....but lets say you apply and get the card in 1 week 2/18/22, then complete the spending requirements in 2 months (2.5k a month) instead of 3) earliest you would get the companion pass would be 4/18/22 and it will expire on 2/28/23 so only 10 months of use) (most likely tied to statement date or something of the like - so likely even less). The 50K difference in flights is enough to cover at least 2 RT flights and likely more. Whereas with the 80K sign up bonus if you work the way to the companion pass you end up with the remainder of the year you qualify and the following year for free companion flights and you have more miles to book with......this one is a pass
Someone can travel with you whenever you do, for free. You still pay tax on fare. The pass lasts 1y.
It's a nice deal, you have to factor in how many times you would use it in a year to calculate the saving. Often southwest tickets are cheap in first place. Meanwhile there are other non related credit cards out there with 80,000-100,000 points which I think is a better deal.
If you are a hardcore flyer on southwest, it would be a slickdeal.
Only 4 people total. Once you set your companion, you can only change it 3 times.

I have a question. With the companion pass do you have travel 2/28/2023 in order to use it or book by 2/28/2023?
I'm debating if my wife should get one, but will definitely pull the trigger if it's "book by" expiration since we usually go to Hawaii every spring break.
I have the lowest SW card. Been getting this offer in my mail/email for a few weeks now. Do I need to cancel my card and wait a while and put in for another and my points transfer to new card?
Points are tied to your SW number so no need to transfer
To qualify you have to either get one of the different cards. If you close your current one, you can't qualify for the offer for 2 years on the same card
The terms do specify that you can't get this if you currently have another SW personal card.
If you currently have a card, say premier, and want to take advantage of the deal with a plus card, can you cancel your premier and immediately apply for the deal with a plus card, or do you need to wait some amount of time.
You should get 20k points as a referral bonus, and that will count towards your 2022 companion pass qualifying miles. They can get the current signup bonus through March 14th.
Pay your taxes with your credit card. They charge 1.9% service fee. Southwest points are like 1.4% cashback. Effectively it is only a 0.5% fee and you dont have to manufacture spending.
Actually did this, if you have an upgrade offer or sign up bonus spending requirements to meet you can end up with a free flight or more. https://maybefrugal.com/paying-taxes-with-a-credit-card-in-2022/

You need to wait. 4 days is the likely minimum base on how other Chase cards with similar rules clear from their systems, but possibly longer.
Once I meet the $5,000 minimum spending, when will I be able to get and use the Companion Pass? Is it at statement closing? Is there any way to communicate with an agent to get the Companion Pass sooner?
I signed up for the card last week and already spent $5,000 on it. I'm trying to use the Companion Pass ASAP.
I've done dozens of sign-up bonus offers, but have never been in a rush to use an offer until now.

The points usually hit at time of statement closing. Then you can add someone to your ticket

You can contact Chase and see if they'll move up your closing date. I've had them move back my closing date before so it's a possibility.

Paying any fees is not a "slickdeal" in my opinion.

Chase won't move your statement date in a way that will shorten your billing cycle. Requesting that date change would most likely extend your wait before getting the CP, not shorten it.

Edit: Seems like based on this article is "travel by" date. Bummer.

Travel has to be done by the expiration date. It's the same for their travel credit as well
