I highly recommend Planet Dog Orbee balls. One of my dogs is fetch-obsessed and these have been awesome for years. They are on the pricier side, but stand up to an incredible amount of abuse. We've probably collected about 15-20 of them over the years and he always carries one around.
Purchased these in May 2020 for 8ยข less and I just use them in my room for a little light while I wait for the right time to adopt a dog. They glow for most of the night when under daylight bulbs; extra bright if you use a UV on them.

I have these...for my kids 4yo and 6yo. They do not fetch, lol. But like them at bed time.

Made the mistake of sticking a few treats inside the ball. Our 2 year old female Weimaraner made short work of the ball after she managed to get the treats out. Luckily we found the pieces of the ball before she ingested them. Advise not to stick treats in it!

Sounds like this is an issue with your dog not the toy itself.

My dog loves these. I use a little box I rigged with some led lights to charge them so we can play at night
just get a 5 bucks ultraviolet flashlight. charges them in 5 seconds.
