My LED lighted switchplate covers arrived yesterday. I tried them on a variety of plug and switches, none of them worked. The electrical contact seems to connect to the exposed electric wiring.
I just filed a PayPal dispute.

In my personal/professional opinion, I think that these are too simple to fail spectacularly is the best way I'd describe it. I was incorrect in my earlier post about the generics having the rounded edges, it was actually the generics that had the squared corners in this case, so apologies there.
Anyhow if the pictures do show up it would help explain what I mean, but there is a wire soldered to a contact point on the generic, so if it WERE to overheat it would just burn off the solder and then lose the connection. I don't see anything that could cause your recepticle to short out between hot and neutral or hot and ground...it would probably just stop working. That's sorta what I mean by too simple to fail spectacularly, if that makes any sense lol. The name brand version has a copper ribbon which I could definitely see lasting forever compared to a soldered point, kind of like how the clock radios in old cars tend to just fail over time.
I definitely understand the hesitancy about non UL/CE listed devices, I wouldn't use something that utilizes or manages substantial power like a light fixture, surge protector, extension cord, etc. I'm not too worried about a 0.5w led hanging out on a cover.
Hopefully this helps a bit.
The quality and design of the SP brand is of course nicer, with squared edges common on decora covers instead of the slightly tapered edges on standard covers.
My house is like 70 years old so either way new covers stand out and look great, but the generics feel fine and work well, at least for me.
No experience with this particular website, I got mine off of ebay ages ago. They have that same plastic arm design in the back with contact points to hit the neutral and hot on either side of the recepticles though.

The MSRP is definitely inflated so your savings aren't really that great.
These appear to be no-name plates. Similar can be found on eBay or Amazon. I can't speak to their durability or functionality but at least with a branded name there may be some resource for refunding or replacing faulty plates.
I have a few plates like these in my house and they are, quite literally, a life saver. We have them in our hall and our on stair landing (right where the cats sleep). Before, you'd nearly kill yourself or a cat if you stepped in the wrong spot but these light up both enough to safely walk. I think the "product" as a whole is a good idea and I've had great use with them, but I cannot speak to or vouch for a no-name version with, assuming, little to no recourse if they don't work or are DOA.

I had one from the old Chinese daily freebie sites, but they didn't work in hallway. oh well it was free and is still a faceplate. OT wonder why all those sites disappeared
