item has a much higher build quality than the PNY on sale.
Another key point versus the two, the PNY cannot connect to
a phone without taking the phone case off but the SanDisk
will make the connection to the phone with the case on.

What is the best use for this kind of storage?
So far, I haven't ever had a flash drive fail. I still have some old 8GB ones and a whole box full of SD cards of various vintage. All still work.
I also still have every SSD I ever bought, back to the 64GB. Only that run of crappy OCZ SSD's that all died went out on me.
Also, if a flash drive becomes "hot enough to burn your fingers", that product is designed improperly. The only flash drive I ever had that got really hot was a sandisk Fit usb 3.1 drive. Way too small to properly dissipate heat at those speeds. That got returned.
Drives are "too hard to open"? Is there a deal on hand strengthening workout stuff?
Other than some of the full length usb-c drives feeling like the little connector might just shear off from the leverage, so far none have.

I've had flash drives that were ridiculously tough to open, almost "stuck". Also, yes the Sandisk design gets incredibly hot, had one about a decade ago. Figured they would have changed that by now but I guess not.

A decade ago. Clearly you're a man who really knows how to point out the salient stuff.
Folks, buy this if it seems it'll fit your needs. If it is so hot that it burns your skin, return it. Otherwise, as long as you care for the product withing a reasonable range, it'll be fine.
Don't pay extra for a name or a brand. Its largely irrelevant when it comes to flash. Your brand name device may have been made on the same assembly line using the same exact components.
I have a ton of PNY and other oddball noname flash devices, none have ever failed or ever given me any trouble.
