Good, yes. I'd go as far as to say they're better for gaming than the 6xx.

With that said, they make the 6xx sound exciting and that's hard to do. These are extremely neutral. They're a bit harsh on the top end for me but they're still great. I used them as my main set until I got Focal Clears. Now I use them with my PS5.

Edit: As for open vs closed back, open back is better for gaming. Much wider soundstage, less overpowering bass usually. Better for footsteps, vocals, etc. However sound leakage is a consideration. It's not enough to transmit through a mic(I've tested dynamic and condenser) but it is noticeable to others in a room with you.
Fine for gaming but these are open-back, so everyone around will hear everything you hear almost as clearly
What are you doing to your headphones? I've had my 598 for 5 years now, and they have the same exact connector from the looks of it. I've dropped these more times than I can count from desk height, and the same cord is still going strong.

Also the replacement cable, should you ever need one, is $10 on amazon. That isn't expensive, and the stock ones are durable as hell from my experience.

He is not sealed, if you play games, you should choose a headset that isolates noise

I'm not using the original headphones but I'm still using that same 10ft(?) cord that came with them almost 8 years ago. I've rolled over this thing with my heavy ass chair more times than I could possibly count. This cord should have died within the first 6 months like all the others that get nowhere near the amount of wear and tear this cord gets.

Hey guys looking for feedback I've had experience with hd 598 58x and 6xx how do these compare? Also if anyone has suggestions on a headphone to shake up my lineup maybe with wider Soundstage not Akg wide but wider and more treble and bass then the 6xx is quite tame in. I've tried friends beyers before and I think that is a little to much treble. Any help is appreciated
Well the 800s if you can afford it. If not, order argons and suck up the waiting time. Best bang for buck headphone imo. Comfort is 10/10 and soundstage is 9/10. They're also extremely forgiving of poor recordings which makes them pair well with anything you throw at them since they don't punish you if you listen to something like a basement recording or poor master or shitty MP3 from time to time. And on top of that they do well with detail retrieval with good recordings, not as much as something like a DT1990 or even a somewhat sterile and clinical studio headphone like the 560, but given your aversion to treble stabbing I think a warm, fun headphone that isn't too loose or bassy would be a great addition to what you have. They're also great for gaming ime.

I personally swap between the 6XX, the argons, and then meze classics for portable use. And I find this is a nice mix of mid tier headphones for someone that doesn't want the same sound all the time and doesn't care for the intensity of treble monsters like the beyers and others of the same ilk.

The clarity - soundstage/imaging is better with the HD560s.

So if you are looking for using these headphones for gaming they will be superior.

Build quality is inferior to both the 58x/6xx as it is an all plastic build with one cable output rather than the dual cables in the 58x/6xx.

Clamp force is just as strong as the 58x/6xx with varying opinions on if they are more / less comfortable. The way the 560s clamp is different than the 58x so that's why some like them more comfort wise and others prefer the aforementioned Drop pairs.

The ear pads are a bit more shallow on the 560s than the 58x/6xx so if you have big ears they could slightly touch the drivers inside the cup itself.

Id do some more research on google/reddit there are tons of threads comparing them.

If you have a pair of HD58x/6XX i dont know if these would be an upgrade or more of a sidegrade especially since the resale value for the 58x/6XX is so piss poor its basically worth just keeping them as a back up pair then taking a huge loss.

Appreciate the detailed reply 800s are out of my price range but I might have to look into the Argons. Did you mean audeze classics as your third pair I've heard good things about those. I was also considering sundara. Thanks again you definitely got me thinking about some other great options

Very specific breakdown thanks. Sounds like these are similar to hd 599 build. I currently have a 6xx and was hoping to pick these up to get a contrasting sound signature to the warm 6xx. The Soundstage you mentioned is definitely a plus as well as there being more treble. Definitely going to checkout the reddits and see what's out there.

Excellent reviews already, but I also want to point out for fellow giant ear havers that these are really amazingly comfortable. My ears are big enough that even with the VModa over ear extra large cups, it was still basically on ear for me, but this pair fits around my ears and feel fantastic, so I don't have to take as many breaks if I'm hunkering down for a while. Then, as everyone else has said, soundstage is excellent!

Better off with the hd 599 for 149.99
Definitely not lol. These headphones are really really good, and in some ways better than a lot of headphones sub $500 or even more. Great for gaming if you can drive them, and still the best jazz headphones I've heard to this point between these and the Focal Clears I'd say

What is ultimately a better buy for pretty much the same price: HD 560S or DT990?

Most comments here have already done a great job of stating the characteristics of these headphones, but I wanted to add a comment on just exactly how good these are at soundstage and imaging.

The imaging is very good for gaming, very accurate directionally. Making it easy to pinpoint enemies on sound in relation to yourself. Soundstage is W I D E, great immersion.

If you know what the Fidelio X2s sound like, these are similar. Just a little less bass and some more clarity in the treble.

599 would not be considered an upgrade.

The HD598 has a larger soundstage and imaging is a wash. The HD560s are better with clarity and detail. They are more neutral than the others, but they are not better at everything. It also depends on the usage and sound signature preference you're looking for.
