Good for gaming. Super comfortable and light. Earpads are not removable and the included cable is blech though (too long and sheathing is prone to retaining bends out of the box from how it is packaged). I've been happy with mine as I paid over $200 over 6 months ago and have had no issues.
Apparently the earpads are removable.

Great headphone if you listen to classical music. Neutral tuning with lower-treble peak, can get fatiguing for some people. Mid-bass is lacking so no "oomph" in the bass. Very light headphone, comfortable after break-in. I find myself using this headphone all the time because of the neutral tuning and comfort over my Focal headphones. Lastly they have good staging and details, gaming is quite good if you don't need isolation and a microphone.

Imho they're a lot better than the HD600 series for both listening & mixing. They don't feel as constrained sounding or diffuse as the HD6xx. Larger soundstage and better detail and imaging.

Bought this the last time it was $143
Best gaming headset i have used (have tried a few upper tier wireless closed backs, HD58x, and PC38x)
The sound separation, footsteps and spatial awareness in competitive FPS is second to none at the <$250 price point and if you are going to purchase headphones that are more expensive you will need a decent DAC/AMP to run them (Series X has no solution, PS5 has a few options, and PC obviously is open to everything).
Very easy to drive - plug them directly into my PS5 Dualsense controller port
Purchased a Schiit Hel2 and a iFi Zen DAC Air - the sound was slightly better but at $200 both of these units had their share of QC issues. So i pocketed the $200 and plugged them into the controller directly. I know there are other options but these are the best available that are compatible with the PS5.
I did purchase a new cable as the one that comes with the headphones is almost like a bad joke with how long it is and how thick and unwiedly the adapter to 3.5mm is
This is the cable I bought - paid $11 - read some reviews that they stop working i dont mind paying for another as it makes the headphones much more enjoyable to use while gaming than having to deal with 10 ft of cord and a gigantic adapter
if you dont have gaming headphones buy this and a cheap USB mic (Razer/Hyper/Blue Yeti have some around the $30-80 price point) and you have yourself the ultimate gaming set up
Dont waste your time or money with the PC38x or any "gaming" branded headset, these are the ones to get period.
Also people talk about the clamping force - it honestly really isnt that bad - HD58x and PC38x are FAR worse in terms of clamping and thats even after you bend the metal headband - something you obviously cant do with these all plastic pairs.
I set the headphones on their box for the first 5-8 days and after that they fit perfectly even after hours of play time.

I bought this set a couple months ago for myself for $150, and then last week as a gift at $170. You don't need an amp but I bought one as recommended by the last thread this came up in (FiiO) and use it at my PC for gaming. Amazing. Can't not recommend at this price.
I have some old autio-technica m50xs - would these be any different? They still work fine - just wondering if tech has changed recently. I generally go for a neutral or reference style sound.

Earpads are removable. I have done it. In fact I suggest getting better earpads. I didnt like the ones that came with it. I changed pads to add slightly more bass and they are more comfortable also. I got these:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B9M6...UTF8&psc=1 and I love them.
