I'll add my 2 cents here since this information helped me on another thread. This device is more powerful than your regular Fire TV stick and Chromecast w/GTV. It may or may not be noticeable in everyday tasks but where I feel that it really shines is in streaming games from my PC to my TV. I get smooth 1080P streaming with no artifacts and no noticeable lag. I've tested multiple other devices and none of them was as good.

Can you wirelessly stream audio from a fire tv stick to your echos? I have a "home theater" setup with fire tv cube and 2 echos and echo sub all synced and playing together wirelessly from whatever I'm watching from my fire tv cube. It's so convenient in fact that I'm getting rid of my klipsch 2.1 setup in my bedroom

I'm confused, as I thought the extra 20% was from using a Chase Prime card. But then there seems to be another 20% off deal in relation to the trade.
There is a 25% rewards bonus for your credit card. Supposedly people are getting an extra 20% for trading in an old fire stick, which I set up but they are saying I don't get the 20% until they receive my device. Not sure how some people are getting it instantly?

Is this Cube an improvement over the generation 1 Cube that I bought a few years ago? Recently, I need a good reason to upgrade.

This 2nd Generation Cube is an incredible upgrade over the previous version Cube. Scroll through the comments, a few have links to comparison reviews. For purely streaming only the AppleTV_4K and Nvidia ShieldTV_PRO are the only devices more powerful than the 2nd Gen. Cube. Highly recommend upgrading.

With the recent update, they blocked certain apps, such as custom launchers and debloaters (where you can disable most of the amazon stuff)
Yes, but the question is, at what point will Amazon start incorporating that alternate launcher-blocking firmware into the new models they're selling. If the device doesn't already have the update pre-installed, it can be blocked once you get the device. But if the device comes with the update already pre-installed, I don't think there's any way to un-do that.

Yeah this is worth noting

Remapper also requires another workaround now too
If you've got a Fire TV device that doesn't already have the firmware updates installed that block alternate launchers, you can stop those updates from being installed. The TechDoctorUK YouTube site has several recent videos with all the details of how to accomplish that.

But once your FTV already has those OTA firmware updates installed by Amazon, AFAIK, there's no way to undo that or roll-back the device to an earlier firmware version.

Night and day different. The Cube 1 is basically at the bottom of the FTV world in terms of specs and capability. The newer Cube 2 is basically at the top of the FTV world in terms of performance, even higher than the new FTV 4K Max, although the latter has "some" spec advantages.

The 4k Max stick is very snappy. Picked up a few when they were recently $30. Compared to our ATV 4k and Shield, they work great. If you really are just streaming - using nf/hulu/plex/etc. - those sticks are more than sufficient.

I would say for 69.99 the Costco in store Roku deal looks better than this you get the new Roku ultra + Roku steaming stick + (earlier version )

https://www.costco.com/roku-ultra...04928.html

Only if you don't need Amazon's android platform I say 2 Rokus is better for the price of 1 cube . Hope that helps somebody 🙏

Thanks. So the only thing missing is DTS. Can the memory be expanded?

EDIT: OK apparently this device has no passthrough so no atmos, dts etc so not good for kodi
I tried using this Cube for Kodi and I can't seem to figure out why audio goes out of sync with video the longer the files plays. Did some googling and discovered that Amazon does some wonky stuff with codecs, possibly to create this exact issue with unapproved, side loaded aps.

Also had an issue where Youtube TV would stutter with no frame drops. News tickers showed this clearly. And that's not even considering the frame drops when trying to stream 1080@60. None of these things are problems with Chromecast with Google TV.

But, I have no idea about 4k or 8k support or Atmos.

Not sure about the people having 4K movies freeze up. No issues here on my FireTV Cube 2nd Gen. I rip my 4K as full movie, single highest audio track, only English subtitles and I do not compress them so most are sitting at like 50Mbit/s (50 - 60 Gb files). They stream seamlessly from my Plex server (Synology) to the Cube 2nd gen. Also have no issues with Dolby Atmos pass-through either. But again I'm using Plex and most of the people with problems are using Kodi. Both the NAS and Cube are hardwired not that it should matter.

I also have the FireTV Recast with 1Gb drive hooked up to a OTA antenna and use the DVR function pretty often. Over the air sports broadcasts look so much better then compressed streams and we can record whatever we want to watch like a normal DVR.

Honestly the Cube 2nd Gen + Recast + Antenna was one of the best things I did and paid for itself in less then a year over the cable TV bill.

Have you tested against a nvidia shield pro? That is what I am using now and curious how the cube stacks up. I am happy with our shield but need something for an upstairs tv and wondering how this would stack up since it would save some money.

I've got a Cube from 2018 which has really sucked as it's laggy as sh!t, have basically written it off due to the slowness. Specs on new gen Cube shows upgraded processor chip so hoping this runs much more fluid than my current cube.

So the CPU speed is very close... which is GREAT for the Cube.

But the GPU speed is way off. The Shield is like 500% faster.

Bottom line, if you play games, you will want the shield but if you only stream... the cube is pretty damn good.
