I've purchased too many drives from Amazon that have turned out to be either fake (relabeled), shucked, or simply out of warranty and had no recourse for any of them. I'll never buy another drive from Amazon. If i can't get it from microcenter, best buy or last resort, adorama & B&H i'm not getting one.

TIL there are three variations of the RED drive. There used to be only one type. farking WD trying to bleed us dry with all these product variations. farking basic RED version isn't even designed for RAID which is the whole point of NAS.

You probably won't notice a performance difference. Might as well stick with the quieter (slightly slower) drives.

So $100 cheaper for a (newer tech) better drive? not too shabby.

6TB is also on a sale price of $110, but is slower RPMs. Need to replace my two mirrored 3TB drives in my NAS. Any major real world difference between the slower 6TB or this 10TB for NAS?

A RAID 0,5 or 6 array with modern 5400 RPM drives can easily saturate a gigabit Ethernet connection. Unless you are multigigabit and have absolute need for maximum performance, I'd personally go with the quieter and cooler running slower drives. Now the regular WD 6tb drives (not plus) drives are SMR, I'd stay away from those.

No comment on the price. Just one thing, I purchased one red plus 10Tb from newegg around 1 year ago, and died within 12 months. Contacted WD customer service for a replacement since it was still under warranty. Then based on the S/N number, a red (NOT plus) replacement was mailed back to me. So...

I would directly choose red pro (which has been working fine for almost 3 years within my same NAS), or just go with red. Just my 2 cents

I was looking at all of the shipping and return stories on the WD website and on Amazon so, based on availability, purchased at Best Buy so I could more easily return it. I did get the smaller TB drive since the 6TB was unavailable. Picked it up tonight and it was manufactured in January of this year.

In case anyone has a personal hate for WD, the Seagate IronWolf 10 TB is $230 ($25 more). Seems fairly comparable at this config, but if you're comparing the Seagate 6TB version to the WD Red 6TB, it has slightly better specs if you're optimizing for performance. The WD is slower, quieter.

Not at the time, no. Granted, i'm not sure it would matter since Amazon is very robotic and give you little resolution once you meet their minimum return window. They kept telling me "you have to work with the manufacturer" but were missing the fact that I can't deal with them because what they sold me was different than the window the manufacturer could help with (older/previous sold drives or shucked drives that don't have the same warranty).

It was a pain in the ass, never again.

I don't think this is good advice, especially for a NAS. The Plus line is specifically so NAS users have something affordable that they can be assured is not SMR, which causes huge performance issues in RAID arrays. So I would never recommend the standard red Red line (non-Plus, non-Pro) if your use case is a NAS.
