For those curious on PS5 compatibility with this (and any M2 drive), yes it's compatible, here's a list I put together for you:

First, requirements it needs to be at least 5,500MB/s read speed, which leaves you with pretty much 4 drives that work (or at least labeled as PS5 ready):
1TB@$170~ Samsung 980 PRO (1TB/2TB)
1TB@$170~ WD BLACK (500GB/1TB/2TB)
1TB@$190~ Seagate FireCuda 520 (500GB/1TB/2TB/4TB)
1TB@$132~ Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus (500GB/1TB/2TB)

1TB will cost you around $180~ ($132 is a steal right now)
2TB will cost you around $300~
4TB is only available from Seagate and costs $960 ($850 right now).

Other things:
• The M2 that is in the PS5 is about 5,500 MB/s, so all these drives are faster at 7,000MB/s~.
• Make sure the M2 has a heatsink (they all do except Sabrent).
• Installing it is fairly easy, only scary part is taking the side cover off the PS5. It's easy, just follow instructions from a YouTube video
• If you get the Seagate m2, you'll need to update the firmware (which means you have to connect it to a computer and update it)
• Once everything is setup, you can make all future games install directly to your new drive, or just certain games
• Technically, you can install other M2 drives with slower speeds, and it'll work BUT don't do it. Not worth the risk having a potential issue on a drive that isn't officially supported.

Also I put the Samsung Pro 2TB in mine (digital PS5), and I filled it up FAST, the night I installed it, 125 games total (mostly random games I've bought in the past or free games). You'd be shocked how big some games are (my 10 biggest games were 80GB+, that's almost half the whole drive for just 10 games).

Edit: For those buying the M2 from this deal, you'll need a heatsink, any should do, but here's the official one from the same company: https://www.amazon.com/SABRENT-He...QQWCL?th=1

The Samsung 980 Pro deal is back and only 250 for the 2TBer on Amazon. Seems like a no-brainer, right?
Not so fast! The Samsung 980 Pro is a super fast drive, BUT the TBW (longevity) rating pales in comparison to this drive.

If you want a secondary drive that is going to last past when m.2 is no longer the defacto standard? Get this one.

If you want a blazing super fast drive as your main system drive and don't care how quickly it burns out? Grab the Samsung 980 Pro.

Good point. I see that the 980 Pro is rated at 1200tbw while this drive is 1400tbw, so I think "Pales in comparison" might be a little bit of an overstatement. I might trust the Samsung memory to reach its stated endurance over Micron but IDK. But thank you for pointing that out. I just ordered the Samsung, I may cancel since I will be editing videos off of it and constantly moving data on and off.

Agreed. 1200 vs 1400 isn't a huge gap, especially given most people will never get near the TBW mark. That said, if TBW is a metric to be looked at heavily, there are other drives with way higher advertised TBW to add to this comparison. Inland's performance 2TB pcie4.0 m.2 for example is a bit slower, however they advertise it's rating at 3600 TBW. Link for reference:

That's the one I have. Works great and comes with a heat sink. Consistently $130 with almost all 5 star reviews. No brainer.

Likewise good sir, got it for $110 on sale and slapped on an aftermarket heatsink (this one MHQJRH M.2 2280 SSD heatsink, Double-Sided Heat Sink, with Thermal Silicone pad for PC / PS5 M.2 PCIE NVMe SSD or M.2 SATA SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KDDK...UTF8&psc=1) haven't looked back. Xpg S70 blade is a solid unit.

I've got a 2TB Rocket 4 Plus. Seems nice enough.

For those buying Sabrent SSDs, remember to register your product on their web site to get the full 5 year warranty. If you don't, warranty is only 1 year.

It does not need to be 5,500. So many SSDs work with the PS5. Sony specifically has it listed under, "Recommended Speed," not "Required Speed." Digital Foundry tested a 3,200 SSD and there was literally a 1 second difference in load times, occasionally. There was no difference in gameplay performance. Not a single game uses the full speed of the SSD yet. The only reason to get a drive that fast, or faster, is for future proofing. Otherwise, you can go much slower than 5,500, and save yourself some money. Here's the video from Digital Foundry. https://youtu.be/zWQs4UpiKlg

While it's recommended to have at 5500+ Mbps for the ps5, it's not a requirement (like you said). At this point, I don't think many ps5 games fully utilize Gen 4 nvme speeds. Besides, I don't see "officially supported" m.2 drives for the ps5.
What they said. Next-gen PS5 and Xbox are making people poor with stupid expensive storage whose performance is rarely used. So why not buy the cheapest you can get away with? By the time it matters, prices will have come down.
  1. WD Black 1TB SN750: $140
  2. PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB: $214
  3. PNY XLR8 CS3040 4TB: $566

Sure it's cool when Gran Turismo 7 loads in 1 second. But would people complain if it was 3 seconds? If Microsoft & Sony were consumer friendly, they would allow unlocked unofficial nvme gen3 support for most games, especially older generations. But they are not, and do not.

I see that the WD_Black SN850 w/heatsink is on sale on Amazon for $169. Would you say the difference in price would be worth it to get this over the Sabrent??
