All I can find on it is this youtube video but that doesn't really explain anything

Sounds like a disposable appliance. Since an air fryer needs circulating fans, the smoke extractor seems to be literally the inverse - it just sucks up air.

I assume there is some sort of filter that will capture the smoke/carbon, but when reviewing the manual, doesn't seem to indicate a piece to clean or replace.

Since the carbon has to go somewhere...if you can't clean it, it will probably get really nasty sooner rather than later... and thus disposable.

Seems like the smoke extraction works for grilling mode and circulation for air fry so it likely just vents it out the back during grilling and closes the vent for air frying. Clever to reduce footprint but not worth it when electric grills are very low cost and common.

Ofc that means yes grilling chemicals coming off could be recirculated and increase carcinogens of your air fried foods..

"Grilling meats at high temperatures results in the formation of heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chemicals that form when meat — including beef, pork, fish or poultry — is cooked at high temperatures. According to the National Cancer Institute, HCAs and PAHs have been found to be mutagenic, which means they cause changes in DNA that may increase the risk of cancer."

"Despite its popularity, outdoor grilling comes with many hazards. BBQ smoke contains a high level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are known to cause DNA mutations, respiratory disease, and even lung cancer."

I knew the burnt charred parts of meat could cause cancer, but not the smoke. I use to eat Korean BBQ alot, wonder if that's a concern since it produces so much smoke.

If you eat it at a proper location where they have a suction vent directly above the grill, you're probably fine. If you're doing it at home and smoke/vaporized oils is getting everywhere...probably not so good.

If you're worried about health though, just consider reducing your meat consumption a bit.

I don't always follow my own rule, but I try to get higher quality meats in lesser quantity (cost the same as lesser quality but higher quantity). Not a very slickdeals mentality, but health isn't cheap, lol.

They form after the below temps are hit doesn't matter about grilling/frying/outside/smoke/etc which I found out after reading more looking at my thumbs down post lol
"More HCAs are formed when pan surface temperatures are higher than 220 °C (428 °F) such as with most frying or grilling"

Contrary to popular belief, the chicken companies got people fooled:
https://www.nature.com/articles/7500158
TLDR? - Pan-fried meats were the largest source of HA in the diet and chicken the largest source of HAs among different meat types.
