Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it
Some people don't live in a house.
Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

No. Because I know a lot about cellular and know about what will happen if I do that.

Cell companies have three categories of devices:

Phone (can be used for voice calls)

Tablet, sometimes including cellular laptops (data only, used directly on the device)

Hotspots, routers (data only, not used directly on the device itself, but shared to an additional device)

These are not interchangeable. And they can tell by reading the device MEID and IMEI, which identify the device. They can also tell if it is on-device data or shared hotspot based on both TTL and by which APN is used (the APN for on-device usage is a different gateway than the DUN or PAM shared hotspot APN gateway).

It is not as simple as just moving the SIM card.
Thanks for the info! I remember someone here said you can modify the hotspot settings to make the SIM card "think" it is a tablet. I remember someone said we can change the APN and TTL on the free hotspot from TMobile. But I do not have the expertise to change other settings. do you know how to do this?:

That where is change of APN and TTL come in, but normally a pain in the rear.

Yes, you can modify the TTL and APN.

But they still know it's a hotspot because the device MEID/IMEI/ESN all tell them the make and model of the device. And they know that the hotspot is not a tablet.

Changing the APN and TTL does not change the IMEI/ESN/MEID which identify the make/model of the device. So that still isn't enough.

if the tablet is rooted, then one can use it directly as hotspot (with APN, TTL mod) or combine with a travel router.

That is different than moving the SIM to a hotspot.

You are subject to the limitations of the radio and antennas of the tablet.

Hasn't this deal been around forever? I've had it on my account for years ever since the deal for the free LG 8" tablet.

So can I just get this plan and the SIM as a new business customer WITHOUT having to get a tablet? I keep seeing different answers. I need a point of view from someone who did exactly this. Not an existing customer, someone brand new and no voice lines, just this plan.

Also, I assume this plan is limited to SD video and all that jazz?

Which tablet do you use for calling?
Sorry, I misspoke - I've texted using the tablet. Not calling using cell towers, anyways.

If you can root it I'm sure you can install a dialer, but even then I'm unsure it'll work.

If you drop the SIM into a hotspot or phone, what should you expect? I know it'll slow to 600kps, reportedly, but on the back end will they kill your plan and cancel the line if it's in there too long?

It is reported here that the SIM card from ATT worked on a hotspot

What plan do you have? Any voice lines also in account? This is standalone tablet plan, no voice lines needed.

AT&T is different, I personally use like tablet line with unlimited data at $20/month in a hotspot and never had problem or issues.

I read on a recent Reddit thread like it didn't connect for 1 person at all

https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...o_hotspot/

Their plan was like $50/month for 50 GB data and still.

Can someone recommend a decent 5G tablet to replace this Samsung 7 tablet later on? This free Samsung 7 tablet is only 4G capable, right?
