They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)
Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.
So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it
soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

Cell companies have three categories of devices:
Phone (can be used for voice calls)
Tablet, sometimes including cellular laptops (data only, used directly on the device)
Hotspots, routers (data only, not used directly on the device itself, but shared to an additional device)
These are not interchangeable. And they can tell by reading the device MEID and IMEI, which identify the device. They can also tell if it is on-device data or shared hotspot based on both TTL and by which APN is used (the APN for on-device usage is a different gateway than the DUN or PAM shared hotspot APN gateway).
It is not as simple as just moving the SIM card.

Yes, you can modify the TTL and APN.
But they still know it's a hotspot because the device MEID/IMEI/ESN all tell them the make and model of the device. And they know that the hotspot is not a tablet.
Changing the APN and TTL does not change the IMEI/ESN/MEID which identify the make/model of the device. So that still isn't enough.
That is different than moving the SIM to a hotspot.
You are subject to the limitations of the radio and antennas of the tablet.

Also, I assume this plan is limited to SD video and all that jazz?
I did a search and found the following post. is this the method to change the IMEI?

If you can root it I'm sure you can install a dialer, but even then I'm unsure it'll work.
If you drop the SIM into a hotspot or phone, what should you expect? I know it'll slow to 600kps, reportedly, but on the back end will they kill your plan and cancel the line if it's in there too long?

I read on a recent Reddit thread like it didn't connect for 1 person at all
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...o_hotspot/
Their plan was like $50/month for 50 GB data and still.
