Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it
Some people don't live in a house.
Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

Forgive me if already answered, which plan is the TI, I see where one is explicitly TE, is the Magenta Business Tablet $10 the TI plan?
No, it's the other plan.... the one with "Promo" in the title.

I didn't need to change the IMEI, and I didn't have to manually set any APN settings. It's actually one of the few times I've been able to pop in different SIM cards into an unlocked hotspot without needing to manually change APN settings. Saves quite a bit of time and guessing.
Thank you for the info, that's much easier than what many have said here

I'll post the general setup here in a reply. If you would like any specific screenshots, please PM me and let me know which specific admin or config page, and I can get those sent.

====

Verizon (unlocked) Inseego 8800L hotspot (currently $25-40 on eBay)
- default config with the exception to the admin password and wifi password

Mango Wi-Fi Router ($30 on Amazon - GL.iNet GL-MT300N-V2(Mango))
- I changed the default admin password to log in to the router
- I left the default SSID name but changed the default wifi password
- Network Mode: Router (this may be default)
- If it matters, Kernel Version 4.14.63, Firmware Version OpenWrt 18.06.1 r7258...
- I am pretty sure I left everything else default

Steps I took to tether:
- Power on the Mango router
- Power on the hotspot
- After the hotspot completely turns on, I connect the two devices using the (USB-C) charging/data connector on the hotspot to the USB-A port on the Mango router (which is different than the charging port)
- My hotspot presents me with "USB Connection Options" - I select "Access internet (USB only)" or "Access internet (USB & Wi-Fi)" and press "OK"
(each hotspot will act different with a USB device connected; my Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 never presented a prompt, and the USB config setting was buried a few layers in the admin console, which was annoying - tethering didn't work consistently on my Nighthawk in the past)
- After connecting to the Mango router on my iPhone, I log into the router web configuration page (192.168.8.1 if at the default settings). If everything connected correctly, the Mango router should show you a Device prompt in the "Tethering" section allowing you to select a device (eth1 in my case) with a "Connect" button. After pressing "Connect", I see a spinning wheel for 30-60 seconds. The few times I've tried this last night, I lose wifi connection and get automatically connected back to my home wifi. I then manually reconnect back to the Mango router, and my web browser shows that my Tethering is successful and shows a valid IP Address from the hotspot.

Hope this helps others who are interested. I'm getting a Verizon Inseego M2100 5G hotspot in later this month and will probably test out the T-Mobile Magenta SIM in that hotspot for speed comparison purposes but also to check whether the hotspot comes unlocked from Verizon. There is a T-Mobile verison of the Inseego M2100 for about $100 less than the Verizon version, but the T-Mobile version is locked, and the Verizon hotspots _usually_ come unlocked. I have not confirmed whether both M2100 devices have the same hardware and antennas relating to supported 5G bands.
Thanks for detailed!

Thank you so very much and repped. One last question: DO you have to change any TTL setting to bypass the hospot criteria for T-mobile ?

It's all going to depend on the brand and model of the hotspot. I've owned about 10 different hotspots so far, and some of them have been far more annoying than other ones.

Many of the posts here are relating to concerns whether:
- T-Mobile will deactivate/ban/blacklist accounts or SIM cards based on unauthorized usage of the Magenta tablet data plan in devices that are not tablets. Only time will tell, based on people who actually try. Changing the IMEI to "spoof" another device is a route that some have taken to try to reduce this risk.
- T-Mobile will deprioritize bandwidth to 2G or 3G speeds based on unintended use of the data plan.

With the T-Mobile SIM and the Inseego 8800L, I did not have to change any settings. The 8800L discovered the correct APN/TTL settings without me needing to do anything. On the other hand, the 8800L could not figure out the correct settings for my Tello data SIM, and I had to manually change the settings to get Tello to work with this hotspot.

So, with the default settings, I am getting the expected LTE speeds for my area, whether I am using Wifi or USB tethering on this particular hotspot. (I'm not limited to 2G or 3G speeds.). However, I have not yet looked into whether the data is getting pulled from my "unlimited" allowance or my 10GB allowance, depending on whether I am using Wifi or USB tethering. Another posted is running a test on this based on his T-Mobile hotspot and mentioned would update this thread sometime after more testing. (I can't seem to find this information on my T-Mobile business account login dashboard, and I may just not know where to look, even though I spent a good 30 minutes looking at every page I could find on the T-Mobile account pages.)

I bought it online at T-Mobile Business website, I selected the sole proprietorship option. It only asked me for my SSN, nothing else really. No documentation, no EIN, etc.
Did you set up an account? Did you choose T1 or TE (which one is Magenta?). For the free tablet. are people choosing Financing or pay in full?

I just signed up for it with the A7 and inclusive plan.

Btw, for those of you wanting unlimited hotspot, you can use your data allocation (unlimited) rather than hotspot (10GB) by using the EasyTether app and the Glinet Mango travel router.
Will EasyTether app and Glinet Mango travel router allow 5G speed? Has anyone successfully used NetShare to get 5G speed? Which method is more reliable? Thanks

I would love to hear how it goes with the Verizon Inseego M2100 5G hotspot.

Thank you for all the setup and speed test details!

Thanks, I'll post back with details, but the new Inseego may not get here before I leave for Spring Break (3/26), so it may be in early April.

I haven't tried it, but if your hotspot or phone are pulling 5G data, the Gl.inet is only a router. So it should go pretty fast, as long as you don't saturate the Wifi N connection (or the ethernet port).

I was (well, still am) getting the activation error message through the business site so went to log in through my.t-mobile.com instead. Everything shows up through My T-Mobile.

Hope it works for you.
