Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it

Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

I also tried to do it online, but they told me to go to a store. There's one pretty close to home, so I went to the store and they confirmed that they could get me into the $10/ Tablet plan. However, a couple minutes in they told me that my consumer account would have to be converted to a business account and therefore I would loose my 55+ plan, possibly affecting my rates - possibly going up when they convert it. I didn't want to do that, so he suggested I just go with a separate $20/mo tablet plan with unlimited data. I like the unlimited data, but that amount was more that I was willing to pay, so I cancelled my request.

I suppose getting this to work is all very dependent on finding a T-Mobile rep who knows how to work their system and/or has the interest in doing it for you.
You can do it online if you don't have a consumer account with the same SSN. If you already have a consumer account, you can go to the IRS website and get an EIN number to act as a business and then go back to the store in person. I opted to use my SO's SSN since I have a consumer account and it worked online.

Thanks! That did the trick - as soon as I connected via USB it worked right away. Which options did you run? I only picked #6 & #8...
yes, same two options, nothing else is needed as such. would love to be able to change the IMEI, but, haven't been able to experiment with that yet.

I appreciate the additional info. At the store they didn't ask for my SSN. Would that be because they already have my SSN on file for my consumer account? Also, would the T-Mobile business account be in my name or in the name that I give to the IRS when I apply for an EIN?

That's probably because they're already looking you up via your consumer account, which you do not want to happen. The business account would both be in your name and the company name. If you're just creating an EIN for this use case, you can create a "sole proprietorship" with your name as the company name if you'd like; that way it'll just be the same. This is not legal advise or tax advise but if you don't really use the EIN for any real business use cases, then it doesn't really matter.

If you choose to go in again, bring your EIN letter and also just start off with saying that you do not want to do this under your consumer account as you want to keep your business affairs separate from your personal affairs.

I never even brought up my 20+ year old T-Mobile Consumer acct. I didn't want either acct. to know about the other. No crossover.

Thanks. I do recall reading that - but I don't quite understand how that is working. TMo would still see the IMEI of the hotspot as what is connected to their network - so I don't understand why/how having a router share that signal (downstream) would impact things...
No one except T-Mobile knows how they configure the systems to interpret/flag usage. We treat all of these as observations/data points, and T-Mobile might change their systems to disallow (currently) seemingly unlimited USB tethered data.

My tests are for experimental usage only. I don't plan on using this data plan in a hotspot, except perhaps in emergencies when my Verizon data plan fails me.

I can report success now with the following method, keeping everything intact billing and credit wise:

* Ordered TE plan and Tablet online with credit showing.
* Received and activated the sim/tablet
* Called Business Support and they switched me from TE to TI plan, keeping the tablet credits in place.

Unfortunately they were not able to add the HD Pass, they said I needed a voice line for that. Not sure if I should call back and keep trying. I noticed connected to my VPN that I get full speeds on all streaming sites. Having HD pass would certainly be the cherry on top.

I can confirm you can choose TI plan and promo tablet, after you receive the SIM card and tablet, the free tablet promo will automatically enroll in. I don't see the free tablet promo when I check out, but I got automatically enrolled in for the promo few days after I received the SIM card and tablet.

That's even better, I would have done it that way if I knew it would work when I ordered.

Did you have to call/chat with anyone, or it happened automatically? I've had min for about two weeks now and no such changes to my account.

Having the same experience as the guy above me.

Customer Care wanted me to go to a physical location with my tablets, and he said maybe they can give me a deal there... Sounded to me like he couldn't do anything for me, or maybe didn't know what to do.

Supposedly the deal ends on 4/15 [reddit.com] so it's alive right now.

Thank you for the help. I did the above and although not a smooth process at all with T-Mobile I was able to leave the store with the SIM card and the complementary Samsung TabA7 Lite. Unfortunately, they were not willing to let me take advantage of the $99 Samsung Galaxy Go Chromebook promo -- the CSR showed me his screen and it plainly said that the Chromebook promo could not be done with the $10 Unlimited Tablet promo. Not a huge disappointment as I considered it a win to get that $10 unlimited Tablet plan.

Now the problem I have is that I am unable to log into my business account. I called customer service and the agent tried to fix it but ultimately told me to go to the store. Nothing is easy any more. Still, I have the Sim and the A7 Lite, so today was a good day. Thanks again.

If you know the phone number for the account, use the regular t-mobile site to register an account and you'll be able to get in.

I was able to order a Samsung Chromebook. First rep said it's not compatible, second mentioned nothing. Anyone with ownership experience, is the display really bad on it?
