How, and why they thought a ¼" router needed that much power is silly. They couldve thrown a ½" (or even ⅜, or an 8mm) in the design.

(Seeing this reminds me of a more amazingly silly router like this... the makita xgt 40v router... I use their 18v and I love them (due to their plunge base's design), but the 40v is a cash grab.. Shame Makita. Shame.)

This router accepts both 1/4 and 1/2 bits. You can see it in pictures.

this doesnt come with the plunge base which is a bummer. Does anyone know if a different brand plunge base would work for this router?

You're correct... I'm a dingus. I think.... I thought the M12VC came with the 1/2 and 1/4 and the M12VCM had a smaller shaft and a ¼ collet was all that it would allow... but I might be thinking of another brand? Or I worked with MDF too much today. 🤣 🤣

I'd assume not (sadly). I could be wrong, but I know plunge bases are a big profit in routers (since they often cost more than the routers themselves. )

Blame Lowes and their stupid page editors. I wonder how they come up with the stuff in their item titles sometimes.

No other store calls this a 1/4" router and all other stores show that it comes with both 1/4" and 1/2" collets. But if store listings aren't clear, I find it best to go to the manufacturer's site: https://www.metabo-hpt.com/us/mai...item/M12VC
