I bought this laptop last fall for "school". Battery is abysmal, 3 hours max on chrome. Gaming isn't too bad, runs most games (especially with dlss) over 100 frames depending on settings. I average around 88°c when gaming. Screen is bottom line, not too bright and a good amount of ghosting. Also the included 135W charger doesn't keep the battery charged when gaming. I had to under clock it when playing Fortnite. If you're on a strict budget, the hardware is pretty solid for the price. However, the RTX 3060 Laptops like the Lenovo legion 5i are coming down in price to around $1000, and would be a much better choice for the extra dough.

I really love the thinkpads I got for work (the keyboards are some of my favorite on a laptop.) Does anyone know how the ideapad line compares in terms of build quality and keyboard? Unfortunately these aren't on display at my store, but maybe I'll drop in and see if they have something comparable on the floor to get a feel.

The Ideapads are a decent amount below the Thinkpad line, and in fact, I believe these Ideapads specifically have a hinge design flaw. If you google "ideapad hinge," you'll find lots of posts and videos hits.

Thanks for the tip! I'll look into and probably pass on this then. I tend to be pretty hard on laptops so I'll likely just need to suck it up and spend the money on something more rugged

If you're not too bothered by thermals, the Dell G15 and the Gigabyte G5 are both pretty decent and you can get them with a 3060 for right around 1k. The 3050 or 3050Ti versions are even cheaper, and about the same price as this guy right here. So you definitely have some options out there. The Dell G15 in particular has a pretty nice chassis, though its thermals leave a lot to be desired.

Yeah, the ThinkPad keyboard is unrivaled. You will not find it on any other Lenovo model. FYI, you can buy a standalone wireless ThinkPad keyboard, I think it's called the Trackpoint, that offers the same typing experience. Runs around $100 though.

I got this Omen few weeks back. If you have an EPP discount you can get another $30ish off the list price. Quality laptop, feels more solid than a nitro for instance. Add to that the rebate eligible HP "carepack" warranty you can purchase for around $250, that covers accidental damage, and I like the Omen even more. If you don't use the warranty, they have a rebate to give you back the full price of it in 3 years.

Lenovo has made the decision not to discontinue doing business in Russia, I have used Lenovo and IBM Thinkpads since the beginning, but no more

The 3 hour battery life is somewhat normal for gaming laptops running chrome and office but the charging issue is concerning. A lot of people buy gaming laptops for creative work and if the battery goes down while plugged in and editing that would definitely not be acceptable.

Why are we pairing a 5800H with a 3050? What a dumb combination to just jack the "value" up.
