Don't whisk your mixture at high speeds (we used our KitchenAid mixer once on high to see) and make it frothy, the contents will separate while it freezes and it doesn't turn out the greatest. It struggled a bit to get through that as the hardest part was at the bottom.
Adding on: This is a sale, but it isn't the best sale price for it. It was on sale at Walmart in December for $124.00 (that's when I purchased!) and at one point even cheaper at Kohl's I think from a deal posted in SD Nov/Dec(?) (I didn't get to it in time!)
If you're not in a rush, your wait will eventually be rewarded; as with a lot of things I suppose.
Editing: Apparently the one I got at Walmart for $124 is a less-feature one where this one has more! I do still have to say, this version DID still sell for less last year ($113 and $118 BOTH at Kohl's)!
In all seriousness, making ice cream is negligible savings unless you're eating ice cream every day and then it'll take awhile. Heavy cream is expensive, as is quality fresh fruit, eggs or cream cheese (depending on recipe) etc. You get larger amounts than the pint you'd buy but it's not going to be a net gain.
If you want to try making ice cream tho, stop by goodwill a few times until a Cuisinart shows up that's in good condition. The Jeni's ice cream recipe is a great, easy one to start with.

At the next level, adding the freezer in the machine (40 minutes to ice cream from chilled mix), consider the Cuisinart® Ice Cream and Gelato Maker [bedbathandbeyond.com]. I use this one (looks the same, possibly an earlier model). Its a little heavy, a little big, and ideally never gets moved. Otherwise one of the best at this price point.
This maker seems great but don't want to buy another appliance to take up spaces.
I guess if you are one that currently makes their own smoothies and stuff like that, this is for you. Just hasn't clicked with us yet.

I like the cut of your jib
I'm researching as well. I found this video helpful

How's the texture of the ice cream with the blender? Is it thick and creamy?

I think the most compelling reason to get something like this is to be able to make a healthier alternative to store bought ice cream.

1. Convenience w/ the container: You pour your mix into a pint container, freeze it there, blend it there, store it there. Since it lives in the same thing continually, you sort of always have a space for it in your freezer throughout the whole process.
2. Settings: Truth be told, I don't experiment with the settings much. But there's one for ice cream, one for gelato, one for smoothies, etc. So you press a button, go away, come back two minutes later and the process is done.
3. Cleanup: Maybe it's because I'm messy, but I feel like there's always crap in my sink. When you're done making ice cream (and you put the container back in the freezer), there's only two parts that you have to clean - the lid and the blade.
On the other hand, you already have appliances that get you 90% of the functionality that this thing does. I would argue that you probably wouldn't get as much use out of it since you already have a process in place that works for you.
That being said, this is a very specific device that's pretty good at only doing one-ish thing (yes, it has 7 modes, but...it's still a blade spinning through something frozen). Unless you're super into ice cream or making something specific for dietary restrictions you can't find at the store (maybe you want something that's mostly vegan, but also includes egg yolks for consistency), I'm not sure this is worth the immense amount of storage space it takes.

Look I've had both and the creami is pretty game changing. I was really shocked at how it turned something like frozen pineapples to have the consistency of gelato.
