Hard to say how much it differs from the one that's offered here, but I just picked up one that looks identical to this from Walmart with the same specs but Ryzen 5 instead of i3 and I have to say this screen is pretty disappointing, particularly the viewing angle. Unless the screen is at the exact perfect angle, you lose all contrast and it looks extremely washed out (even just a few degrees from the best angle and it's noticeable).

Otherwise it's a decent, low end work computer to remotely access my office computer. Not something you'd want to really lounge around and even watch Youtube videos on (particularly if you're trying to watch with a friend -- there's no way that both of you will be able to enjoy a video from just the slight differences in viewing angle).

I ordered the Target one last December. It is 14 inch laptop with 4G Ram and 128g M2 ssd. I spent $55 for extra 16g ram (total ram 4+16=20g) and $60 for 512g NVME ssd hard drive. The preintalled 128g M2 ssd can't be used together because of only 1 ssd slot. Now it is the most powerful laptop I have for under $400. I paid less than $270 for the laptop at Target because I had some Target circle offers.

There were a couple of comparable deals to this in the Black Friday period. Overall, the i3-1125G4 still remains a great sleeper CPU that gives you all the power, functionality, and likely long-term usability of any quad core i-series system at a great price when discounts go your way (as they have here... but hadn't in some time since BF). If you're at all in the market for a cheap laptop, this is an easy choice.

This is the one you shouldn't feel criminal about when tossing over to a kid/student/mom. Best build quality or useful premium features? Nope. But parts & performance per dollar is solid here and keeps you from scouring the refurb market in this price range.

In the dark days before backlit keyboards I did indeed often tilt the monitor slightly inwards to get the benefit of a keyboard light in certain situations. For a $350 laptop with the given CPU/RAM configuration this might be an acceptable hardship.

Almost every deal on these discount HP laptops have indeed had an IPS panel, albeit a very dim one (rated to about 250 nits). Too often IPS is conflated with quality. In these cases, these screens are functional for the price. Plenty of commenters in past threads used hyperbole to describe them as "unwatchable without a flashlight", etc. but perhaps this laptop could be most correctly described as portable (so fine in moving from light controlled setting at home to light controlled setting at school) rather than mobile (this screen might struggle without shade at high noon).

I don't believe this is accurate.

While a displaylink dock will work, this CPU should feature whatever technology delivers display over usb-c.

Perhaps older cpus lacked this feature but I can confirm the answer is yes on displays over usb-c, I drove 3 without a problem using a non displaylink dock.

Not true. The Walmart unit before the target unit did not and these 15.6 units don't either. The specs from HPs site clearly say when it is an IPS screen meanwhile, while the non-IPS is bad, the IPS is not that great as the color range is poor and brightness is not great.
