yes Dont buy directly from WD, if you have to return, it will take a least 1 month to get your money back, they got my DOA drive on Feb 23, and I still have not seen my refund

I need a Nas installed in our home office. I've been looking around at Synology and QNAP but the prices are ridiculously high. Is there another option that is more price friendly?
Western Digital has a cashback offer, but some reviews on WD said WD's packaging is poor so I take it most people are ordering from Amazon?
I think it's worth paying $10 more for the CMR 6 TB over the SMR one.

if you have points with discover card, you can save another $10
If you're eligible which I'm not.
Strangely I was able to do the $10 off locker pickup promo a second time in this account, but another account which never has used locker pickup is ineligible for the $10 locker promo. Who qualifies for Amazon's promos rarely makes sense. Normally I'd buy from WD directly to avoid Amazon, but it seems people don't trust WD's packaging.

For raw storage it would be OK. I doubt you need something as stout as a WD Red drive. The 5400 RPM platter is not going to be great for real time editing in higher bit rates. This drive is built for NAS functions, it will work as a stand-alone in a USB enclosure as any SATA drive will, but for the reasons I already sated I would go with a 7200 RPM drive or even better a SSD with a USB 3.0 or better interface.

i have a synology with 4 bays and 2x 4 tb drives already. Is it a problem if i complete my bays with 2x 6tbs?
My two cents: If you do not do RAID, I believe you can add any size/any rpm speed HD into your synology. If RAID, it is better to use same size, same rpm speed HD, but it is not mandatory also.
