Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about and have never used one of these.

For one, it saves a ton of water that essentially does nothing but act as a heat transfer medium when boiling. In most units, it's under 4oz versus at least 1qt.

It automatically shuts off when your eggs are done, preventing gross over-boiled eggs and scorched pans.

There's no need to wait to bring the eggs up to near room temp to avoid cracking, like you have to do when they get too cold.

Also, it cooks a hell of a lot more eggs than your typical sauce pan (and again, using a bigger pot requires more water).

It's a convenience gadget, similarly to how the microwave used to be for convenience only.
This is much easier than stovetop
Being in a wheelchair cooking on the stove is somewhat more difficult. With this I can place it on a lower surface and cook more safely than having to handle a pan of boiling water that I cant see the top of. Maybe not a common issue but lifes not black and white.

10 bucks for an instant pot egg holder? Just get this posted cooker and be done with it. I've had a seven egg version of this for about 10 years and it is the most used appliance in my kitchen!

So by your logic I should spend 3 more dollars and have 2x the crap to store in my kitchen and generate more future landfill waste instead of just spending 10 dollars and use a device I already own for multiple purposes?!?! Someone has never watched Alton brown

Yes, please teach me wise one about all the challenges of boiling an egg.

1- so you want to save water but don't care about all the plastic used on this product that will end up in a landfill sooner or later

2- to prevent over boiled eggs you can set a timer which probably your stove has right there. I would have given you this point on convenience but then you said "scorched pan" if you are so checked out that you scorch pans while boiling eggs then your have more problems than boiling eggs.

3- never seen this problem before but even if you don't need to wait for eggs to come up to room temperature. Just put them in hot water from the sink (wasting more water) to warm them up.

4- what convenience? The type of person who would buy this wouldn't have any room on their counter since they have a kettle, coffee maker, coffee grinder, waffle maker, food processor, blender, kitchen aid, toaster....(and a bunch of other single use gadgets). Which means they put it in a cabinet somewhere. So you have to take it out of the cabinet, plug it in (find an empty plug), and then make eggs. Once you are done clean all those parts using even more water than you would have used in the sauce pan.

I will give you this point simply because I don't have the same challenges so I wouldn't know if there is a better way.

Well that is a stupid argument because you have no idea how many they had "in stock". Amazon and 3rd parties have a habit of decreasing stock availability when they do deep discounts to prevent losing money and/or cutting their margins. You are assuming hundreds if not thousands probably bought without any proof.

Anyone else think 14 is a strange number for this? Typically eggs in the store come in 6, 12 or 18 count packages.

Not the case. The reason you get a green ring around the yolk is due to overcooking.

I'm usually not a fan of one hit wonders, but these egg cookers turn out consistently perfect eggs with absolutely no more work than pushing a button.

Set it, turn it on and walk away.

No need to mess with stovepipes, pressure cookers, timers, draining or ice bathing anything. Quick cooled or not, the eggs cook and more importantly PEEL perfectly. Every. Single. Time.

If you're only hard boiling eggs once a year for potato salad or something, then fine, $12 might be a lot to spend. But my household eats about a dozen eggs a week and this thing is perfect.

I assure you most of the people petitioning against them, have never used one, let alone took the 30 seconds required to clean one.

100% Agreed. I was skeptical at first, but with the amount of time and kw energy saved, we have saved serious $$$

Only the lid may contain BPA, and that's probably a very low risk since none of the food is directly touching it. If BPA gets into the steam, I assume the risk is very small for eggs inside their shell. Exposed eggs probably have a somewhat elevated risk.

I'm not a scientist though.

Well, that is an idiotic response since how many they had doesn't matter - they sold out - end of story. Are you just upset you didn't get in on the deal? So sad! Frown

What are you 5? If this is the highlight of your day (to try to feel superior because you bought a cheap ass egg cooker) then I feel really sorry for you
