Should be lower than $180 by now… but not a bad price if you need them. I picked up a couple more at BF. Great drives.

WD Element drives support on-device hardware encryption but the Easystore do not. Other than that they're pretty comparable in almost every other way.

Thanks for that info.

It's safe to assume they both use either Red or White drives?

Yeah, white drives almost exclusively. You can sometimes see a red drive in either, but the device will usually have a non-standard model / serial number with a couple of extra letters or numbers tacked on the end with a hyphen. These are usually only found in very short runs, like they're just using up some excess inventory, and when that production batch is sold out you'll usually never see them again.

Yeah, lots of different ways to do so, depending on your budget and current equipment.

Perhaps the easiest way to get it online is to see if your router has a USB port on the back of it. If it does then there's a very good chance that it supports or has an onboard NAS service available. If that's the case, all you need to do is to set up the drive, plug it into the USB port and then go into the web administration/configuration panel on the router to enable and configure the network sharing services. Some routers even have the ability to allow you to access your files from the internet, which makes it very easy to do things like upload photos from your phone to the drive for backup, or transfer other files back and forth as needed.
