Edit: Same $25 back on wife's BCB card, plus $5 off $15 at Jersey Mike's on wife's BCP

Yes. That's what I often do = buy a Staples GC, in store - doing that, it just shows up as a Staples purchase. I do that just because I don't need to then track my spend and make sere I hit the target by the expiration date.

You could of course buy a non-staples GC if you don't spend $$ there.

The "bulk purchases" thing is a rare, corporate type thing.
