Not true, there are many XSX native games that you can play off of external drives. There are even ones that claim to be requiring an internal drive, but will still play off of the external drive. What I have found is that to get the true list, you have to download everything to your external drive and just try to launch it, if it won't launch then you just move it. I found that about 75% of the games that I have will play off external drives, regardless of whether it's XSX native or claims to only run off of internal drives.

Also having the high speed SSD really helps with transfer speeds when moving games back and forth.

You have a HDD. It's $109 on Amazon. This is an SSD. Transfer speed should almost be 1GB/s which translates to 8Gb/S. So faster regardless if one has gigabit fiber or not.

I'm curious to know what the read and write speeds of the SSD contained w/in the enclosure and I'm willing to bet it's a SATA SSD inside 🙄😒😅😆😂

You're still going to get better load times (sometimes significantly depending on the game) compared to a mechanical. With the falling prices of SSDs, I swapped out the mechanicals in my One X and PS4 and there are definite improvements.

What is an "XSX optimized game"? Is that just a relabeling of the One X Enhanced games from last gen? (in which case it would make sense that you can run it off of an external)

I think the read speed is up to 900MB/s but neither XSX nor PS5 can really utilize it. The performance is not improved compared to a regular 550MB/s SSD.

If you use it as an external storage for older games, you can either buy a 2TB SSD for ~$150 so you can have faster load time for PS4/X1X games or just buy a 5TB HDD for ~$100

Yes, can confirm as well, most non XSX games can be played off a regular non SSD drive. It'll tell you that the games that can't be played unless you transfer it into its internal drive or the overpriced Seagate drive that you plug into the back of the XSX. I've started to transfer some games over since I have both a XSX & a X1X. I have a 2x regular 5tb WD Black P10 external drive on my X1X & a regular 5tb WD Black P10 external drive on my XSX. You can turn remote access on both systems, so all the games can be visible over both systems, I would transfer games between the systems depending on its requirements, so I don't have duplicate games. For example, I'd keep all 360 games on my X1X & those that are not X1X enhanced, just letting the system upscale/upgrade those games. No reason to have them on the XSX as it would be doing the same thing. So I'd moved & play non XSX enhanced games onto the XSX external drive & enjoy some games @ 120fps & improved gfx. The only drawback is that games on regular external drives take awhile to load, as opposed to almost instantaneously on the internal drive XSX, or the approved Seagate expansion drive. Still waiting for the overpriced Seagate XSX drive to go on sale, especially the 2tb one which is ridiculously almost $400. Hope this helps

Edit: Typos, etc.

P.S. I just tried Assassins Creed Odyssey X|S version over my 5tb WD Black P10 external drive, it loaded up on my XSX no problem & am currently playing it; albeit load times were longer due to the external drive speed.
