I bought one and ended up returning the laptop due to the 6 bit display. Go to Windows settings, display, advance display settings to see whether your display is 6 bit or 8 bit. I don't claim to be a display expert, just talking from my experience about the HP Pavillion line. Google 6bit IPS to find out more details.

Specs look like a big winner. Nothing to upgrade out of the box (for my needs).
Reps for a great post!

I do see over and over that the silver color gives you poor contrast for the backlit kbd. I have not tried one out in any dark area, just at Costco, where it was bright.

So I don't know why they care so much if it is bright enough to read the keys.
Does anyone have some real-life input on this?

P.S. I sure wish this was a Costco deal for the extra warranty bonus and free returns. I would try it for sure. If I bought from HP I would pay for the extra warranty.

Thanks for the appreciation. HP has done couple of upgrades in 2022 model, mainly using aluminium in the lid and keyboard frame and the inclusion of HDMI 2.1, which is a rare thing even at higher price point.

Probably a dumb question, but what's the point to HDMI 2.1 on a laptop without dGPU? I don't think it can push 4k120 or VRR to external display.

Great looking specs. How does this compare to the MSI Bravo.
https://slickdeals.net/f/15729436-msi-bravo-15-laptop-ryzen-7-5800h-15-6-1080p-ips-144hz-16gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-rx-5500m-win-11-699-free-shipping-walmart

I believe the GPU is the main difference - AMD Vega 7 Graphics on this vs Radeon RX 5500m.
The RX 5500m seems to be faster for gaming, but I can't seem to find much information on the Vega to compare.

https://technical.city/en/video/R...-RX-Vega-7

Edit: On further research - the AMD Vega 7 is an integrated Graphics card so good for light gaming.
The Radeon RX 5500m is a dedicated/discrete Graphics card, that should be more suitable for moderate levels of gaming on a laptop

How many dedicated laptop graphics card you know capable of playing games even near to 120 fps at 4K resolution? But people still complain about that.
The advantage here is that you'll be able to run the monitor at full speed and you'll get the smoothness due to 120Hz support.

It doesn't compare with MSI Bravo because that's a gaming laptop and this is a normal portable ultrabook. So, decide why you need the laptop and purchase accordingly. Anyway, MSI Bravo is more powerful both in CPU and GPU performance, if that's what you were asking.

HP uses low quality 6 bit + frc ips screen on the Pavilion line to cut cost. As a result, colors are washed out on the screen comparing to true 8 bit ips panel.

Do we need to your word for absolute truth or you're gonna provide some proofs, review links etc. to back your claims? For a fact I know this model and the 2021 models, use Chi Mei CMN1523 Panel. Provide some proofs showing anywhere this panel is mentioned to be a 6 Bit + FRC panel.

I also want to know since when you suddenly become laptop display expert who didn't know what's a WVA Panel is just 2 days back.

Or you can just share the Display Panel name which is also visible there and we all can find out the specifications for that display. Like I gave you the exact panel name used in 2021 and 2022 model.
If you don't remember that, share the full model name of the laptop so that we can check what panel it is using.

Not deal-related, but more tech. Can the PD USB-C port power/charge the laptop, or it is only a passthrough/outgoing? If it can be used to charge the laptop, why don't they just put 2 PD ports and skip with 45w AC input?

It is power delivery 3.0 and PD Charger with 45W or more can be used to charge this laptop. And normally when you see a Type-C port mentioned as PD in a laptop, it means it supports charging via that port. What you're sayi g about charging other device, is not called normal USB Charging.

Would this laptop be good for a low end gaming machine? If not, do you have any suggestions on what laptops to look into? Thank you for your thoughts.
