Yes, it's not compatible with the Series 7 charging cable.

But if you have any older Apple Watch (S1-S6) cables, it should fit & work just fine, especially for an overnight charge, which is what most people may use this for.

I have this charger and it works completely fine with my Samsung devices ( Buds Pro, S22 Ultra), and today I realized I can put my Galaxy Watch 4 cable in it too (I had the watch active 2 and the cable wouldn't fit) so yes, it works perfectly with Samsung devices.

plugging in the usb end is one thing, but can you fit the samsung watch charging puck into the holder?

I assume it's cuz the cable plus into the base. And usb c to usb a adapters are cheap. I am using one with the usb c watch cable I got two years ago. 😅

Series 7 FYI: This stand would increase charging time significantly and make sleep tracking difficult.

I think most series 6 or older watch users are accustomed to taking their watches off at night. With AW7, an 8min charge will allow 8 hours of sleep tracking, but you need a stand that works with the USBC cable and puck that supports fast charge.

Independent testing [appleinsider.com]:
Apple Watch 7 - standard vs fast charging puck:
  • 30 mins - 20% (standard), 61% (fast charge)
  • 60 mins - 34% (standard), 100% (fast charge)
  • 130 mins - 100% (standard)

The design of the wireless charger is not bad, the only shortcoming is that it cannot charge the watch alone, and it needs to be loaded into the Apple Watch cable by itself.
