I looked into it myself and the specs show zero difference. So it is only cosmetic. There is a skin/theme when you log into the router firmware as well, but no functional difference there either.

I have a regular on backorder from Amazon for the same price. I was debating cancelling that and ordering this since it's available immediately. I think I'm going to stick with regular though in case I ever need to put my router somewhere less hidden, it will look less crazy than this lol.

My beloved RT-AC86U took a spirit walk on me yesterday. Internet went down while working and I waited for it to come back thinking it rebooted. After 5 minutes went downstairs to check on it and it smelled of burnt components. Checked the router and could tell it was coming from it.

I had been waiting on a good deal for the regular version of this but I guess now that I'm in need of a new router this ugly one will have to do. Thanks OP! Saving $30 was more important than the looks.

Router toasted or just the power supply? Sometimes if it's just the "wall wart" you can find a replacement on ebay/etc. for under $10.

Honestly I think it's the router. I smelled the burnt electronics smell from the router. When trying to power cycle the router only one of the lights come on, very dimly, so I know it's getting power. Not willing to spend the $10 on a power supply.
