Just my experience… the 4th gen full size has an AWFUL mic. The older ones were miles better.

If the dot is anything like the full size you will be extremely disappointed by the mics ability to hear you.

Amazon needs to fix this in the 5th gen. 4th gen full size was clearly a downgrade in my experience.

We were a big fan of alexa (not anymore), we have a toddler who likes to be carried in arms so commands like play sleep lullyby, dim lights are helpful to keep hands free. This Globe version is a step backwards IMHO. The device cannot do proper voice recognition i think they made some kind of spatial audio disappear, older devices work much better. The round Globe i believe hinders ability to understand commands from a distance. We bought one of this last black Friday sale, very disappointed and its sitting in garage. The device is trying to sell products in response to your voice commands which is very annoying (e.g. keep saying to subscribe amazon music ).

We are now planning to try google home devices.

I will say that this one does seem a lot more... sensitive than older versions. I'll try to get an older Alexa in another room to play music and this one will pick it up and start playing music.

The microphone on my 4th gen is not very good, at least compared to my 3rd gen. Placed it in the same space in my home office replacing a 3rd gen and it has troubles hearing me.

Sound quality is better though.

I have multiple full size Gen4. Great speaker quality with good bass, horrendous mics. I would imagine dots would be even worse. Alexa....Alexa...ALEXAAAAA, TURN BASEMENT LIGHTS ON...."there's no device called bedroom".…….Alexa.... Alexa...ALEXAAAAA, TURN THE LIGHTS OFF..... The bitch turns all the the lights ON..... She reminds me of my gf at times...
