I bought a Gateway (not this model) less than a week ago. Touchpad stopped working on the first day. Ended up returning it. Honestly, everything about it felt cheap.

Looks like good price for the specs but lots of bad reviews. Anyone with good experience with longer term use with this?

I got this but refurbished from Walmart at $329. Very pleased with it so far. Doesn't have backlit kb but otherwise very decent laptop for the price. Oh and it does charge via usb-c.

The bios is surprisingly granular with options as well. If memory serves I think it even had overclock options, but I didn't mess with any of that. The iris xe is a surprisingly powerful GPU for integrated graphics. You won't beat any benchmarks for gaming but this little guy would make for an excellent Plex server at less cost than a nuc build.

I bought too the refurb one few weeks ago. All fine and I like it, except the mic is very low. I have to be really loud in order for it to pick up my voice (checked already the gain in the windows settings). Is this common on this laptop or just an issue with my specific refurb unit.?

I haven't noticed that but I also haven't used the mic much honestly. The few times I have it seems fine. I would, carefully, scrape out the mic hope with a toothpick to make sure no debris is stuck in there. Just don't push it in too far cuz you could damage the mic.

I should have noted, I did upgrade mine to windows 11 right when I got it. Not sure if that means newer audio drivers or not.

Here's the refurb link for $329 https://www.walmart.com/ip/792116879

They have it in other colors too, just search refurbished gateway to find them as each color is listed as a separate product for the refurbs for some reason.

That said, at $400, I'd pay the extra $70 for new.

What voltage and amperage do you use to charge it over usb c? I have one and am hesitant to just plug a fast phone charger in it.
If concerned about damaging the battery it's best to have wattage at least 65W. Current will be drawn based on the laptop so more is okay, but having less could potentially cause a problem long term. I'm using my Dell charger with it that's 95W with output current that includes 20V and works fine.

Acer bought them a long time ago. I believe they are pretty much only sold at walmart now and only make a few different models.
The important parts don't seem too cheap.

Example- Intel Wifi
Motherboard with USB C that supports PD and possibly Display

HP laptop sold in Costco and popular in this forum has only Realtek Wifi and USB C does only supports Data and not PD or Display and half the Ram and SSD

Possibly bad quality but decent parts / specs

I bought a refurb and was very impressed by how clean the motherboard design is laid out.. I've attached a photo.

Interesting, your motherboard is Rev 1.2. You've got four memory chips (just above the SSD) instead of the two populated in the photos I've seen of 1.1 boards.

Is there an empty slot for another SSD drive? If so, what kind of SSD this will take?

Nice find. Does this mean that you also have the upgraded Intel AX Wifi 6 chip instead of Wifi 5?
