I still wouldn't buy a Ferrari with a Prius engine EVER. With items like the excellent value Asus 17.3" 1080p Chromebook hitting $149, it's hard to say "competes with".
Yes that 17.3 Asus is awesome! Got one at the $149 price and the whole family is using it!

Does it use WACOM tech for the stylus?

I hate Microsofts N-Trig tech for drawing.
New Chromebooks are USI.

I love my Wacom Dell Chromebook, like this one:

No, but this runs android apps. The tablet mode is quite buggy tho.

I'm not sure how a $300 tablet is a "ferrari". And if you are comparing it to a 17" laptop, you weren't ever the right market for a 11" tablet anyway.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I picked one of these up locally for $150 used (with no stylus). As it supports USI, I went and ordered a Penoval USI stylus and it works great.

I have had zero issues with the chromebook, and it is replacing a 2014 low end Dell 2-in-1 that was using a non-core intel processor.

It was a bit slow the first day or so, but once everything was updated and I restarted the device, everything has been relatively snappy.

I view comics with ReadEra, I watch movies/shows with Plex, I take notes/doodle with a couple of apps (primarily squid), I ssh into my various servers using the built-in Linux vm, remote desktop into my windows desktop machine if I need to do small things without going into the other room...

I don't need it to do anything too taxing (that's what my desktop PC and my server rack are for), and that's exactly what I bought it for. I think, if you know what to expect from a chromebook, this will work fine for you. If you're looking for a complete laptop replacement, this might not be for you. It feels like an android tablet that can also do some PC type things, rather than a laptop that can do android type things.

EDIT: Also, if you are concerned about the 64gb storage, know that there is a slot for a microSD card. I put a 256gb card in there and now I don't have to worry about my media taking up any of the OS space.

ARM is fine. Qualcomm is to blame for not being able to keep up with Apple.

I meant ARM has not been pretty in the chromebook world. Manufacturers have always taken the opportunity to either put in a smaller battery etc

Intel has put in some resources over the years to make sure they work well. Until recently AMD didn't even want to play in this market. Except for Mediatek thus far - but it might be changing.

I agree, I owned one of these briefly and while the build quality was nice, I felt like the performance just wasn't there. The Chromebook Duet, which can easily be gotten on sale cheaper, was actually preferable to me (especially since you can get it with 128gb too!)

Thanks for this! I currently have a Duet, and I DO like it...but I feel like it's a little small and not as high end "feel" as I had hoped. Sounds like this HP wouldn't do me any better than that.

Specs wise, no. The only advantage it has over them is it can actually run the desktop version of the Chrome browser, so if extensions are important to you or you get annoyed with the mobile version of websites, this is better. It can run linux too, but that's not important to the vast majority of buyers. At this price it's a solid purchase, just don't expect it to be as fast as either the iPad or Galaxy. If you can get a good deal for the those though, buy that instead.
