All I use is a hot grill, water and a scraper. Am I doing it wrong?
Same here. Once off still hot scrape then a wet paper towel, after wipe with a paper towel with a bit of oil.
Been using it camping every 3 weeks for the past 2 years.
ajax on the grill you eat on? Are the chemicals safe for eating?
This isn't a thing. The Ajax was for the cabinets and grill fronts. It wasn't for the cook top. Hot water and a scraper was all you needed. They used a citrus cleaner at the end of the day.

idk how it worked at McDonald's back in the day, but if you do this to your home griddle you will need to completely re-season it...
Not in the least bit. The above is all terrible advice.
Blackstones are not stainless steel. They're cold-rolled steel.

Couldn't imagine Ajax on consumer grade griddles :S

Worth repeating that the Blackstone is cold rolled steel. There are other griddles like the Blue rhino that I believe are made of stainless
